This is a general question, not related to video. We have never been big users of the patient portal, but use it a bit more now. I have always been mildly annoyed by this issue and would be interested to see how others handle it.
A patient sends a message via the portal and I reply. I would like to keep a record of the conversation. To do so means that I need to save the message to their chart, right? So I send my message but I do not have the option to BOTH "save to chart" and send as a "portal reply". What I do is send the portal reply, then go click the "X" next to patient name, so it disappears... then re-type the patient name and open a new box to save to chart. Is that the easiest way, or am I missing something?
Also... if this turns into a longer conversation (i.e. they reply again) .... I must go through the same process again to save the later parts of the message, right?

My nurse does most of the Updox management, but she will copy (right click-highlight) the message from the Updox inbox (message from patient) and paste in her message to me, that I see in my inbox. I dragon or type my message to the patient, she saves to chart and then copies my message and pastes back in Updox inbox and sends to patient works slick. But my nurse keeps the original patient message in the updox inbox till she replies to the patient (by pasting the message from me now a permanent record in AC)

Both tasks can be done simultaneously. This is based on the desktop version. Click on REPLY to record your response. After that, before sending, click on EMR to send your reply as well as the original message to the chart. I created a folder called Portal Communication that I send all portal messages to. Go to the top of the page and click SEND. If the message and reply are very long you may have to click on HIDE at the upper right to make the SEND button re-appear. The online version is similar but more cumbersome to me. Hopefully this will help.

Thanks, Jim. Since our staff does not play a major role in portal communication, your approach will not work for us.
Theo, as noted in another thread, we also use the desktop version. I will try your approach.
