Are there any alternatives to updox to work with AC program for faxing, patient portal, etc?. In 2018, there was a 50% increase in Updox cost from $60 to $90/ now they sent us a notice of another 55% increase to $150 per month. This makes it more expensive than the AC EHR itself annually.

Well, I noticed that AC is having a hefty price increase, so I guess they will track pretty closely.
It's a good thing that I can increase my reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies to cover the increased overhead!!
Not.

For faxing, I have used either a Brother or HP All in one printer. They will pull down faxes as PDF files. We can fax directly out from any computer. Thus, I have only used the basic Updox function. We import our faxes ourselves but it doesn't take much time. We rarely actually print documents.
The more basic Updox includes the patient portal, no faxing, no texting. But it meets my needs.
I use NitroPDF free to add text and digital signatures to faxes before sending them out. Others like Foxit PDF, but I am very comfortable with NitroPDF.

Not. I understand that the cost of services continues to go up. AC is increasing it's price, It is unbundled Updox, amounting to another increase and it would appear service has decreased (longer response times). This does not bode well in the long run. My hospital is pushing Epic. The cost, with practice management, is NOT all that different from what I'm paying for AC. Granted, there are hospital subsidies and such, but AC might be pricing itself out of the market. While Epic is no where near as user friendly as AC, it has many services that AC cannot come close to matching. I do like having control over my own data however.

With the Updox price increase, we got rid of the fax landline. The number was ported to Updox so we cut that line out of our phone bill. Updox is still really efficient for quickly putting document into Imported Items so we could not get rid of it. We also use the included texting feature all day every day.
