Is there an easy way just to write a simple free text note (other than an addendum) for a patient that comes in for an injection or vaccine?

This would be useful for me too. The problem with the Addendum option is that it prints a large "Addendum" on the top. We have tried to use it for excuse notes, reports on skin tests, etc, since it adds a practice header automatically on the top. We frequently get requests from the recipient, asking for the "whole note", since they only received the Addendum.

We have also tried the letter writer, but it only saves to the Imported Items, not in the message-encounter list. Therefore, it may not be "legally" a medical note, since it can be altered or deleted, and you have to look through Imported Items to find it.

An addendum does not have to be an addendum...
Create an addendum but choose "Procedure" and in the title put "Injection", for example.
Then add free text as you like.

It will show in the list of past encounters as a "procedure". You could also call it "Other" if you prefer (and there are a few other choices).

As always, Jon is both correct ... and not.

As he says, you can change the title from Addendum to a more descriptive title, so it's easier to find in the previous encounters.

However, when the note is printed on paper (my partner is a caveman using paper charts), or to Updox, it sports a prominent ADDENDUM in bold and all caps, just under the practice header. No matter what you title it.

I can erase the "Addendum" text in Updox, if I remember. But still, AC-ers, why put it there?

(New readers of my posts, don't take offense. I am allowed to make fun of Jon & Bert, since I am older and more grumpy).

"As always, Jon is both correct ... and not."

So I am ALWAYS not correct? Seems a bit harsh, John.
If I say "John Ryan is older and grumpier than I am".... would I not be ENTIRELY correct?

And if your partner is such a caveman, he will know about Wite-out and can use that to erase "ADDENDUM".

In version 11, in Development now, we've modified the Print Note so that it prints the Addendum Type you entered as opposed to the generic "Addendum" label.

No date for version 11 yet..it's our next "Major" Enhancement Release" and we expect it to remain in Development at least through the summer.

I both apologize ... and retract.
