my logs folder is now > 30 gb.

every day since 8/2017 a 58mb file called amazingcharts.admiservice.log.date is generated.

can i delete these? is there some problem that's causing the large log files?

thanks!

Yes I have same issue!

I am desperately running out of space on my server. I even deleted all backups and space continues to shrink out of proportion to database.

You probably already know this. But I observed that you generate a backup onto your AC backup folder for each location you generate a back up. In my case I backup to 3 locations. This generates 3 back files into my AC back up folder. If you are backing up images or scanned data that will add up quickly.

Everyone has to make their own choices, but in over a decade, I have never seen a tech, nor myself, go back to look back more than a day or two at the contents of a log file.

Are you backing them up to three locations at one time using the three paths? Or separately. I can't reproduce that. I get the initial backup on the main window, then backups from the others. Although, I only do one backup.

My guess is as Indy talks about, is you can copy the folder to another location with a lot of space. Leave the other folder and delete up to ten log files. Just to be safe.

Following Indy's useful clarification, I deleted about 35 gb of log files going back to 2015. I saved the last week or so.

So AC support says 58mb daily log is normal. Thats 21GB a year!. I say design flaw. Should be auto delete after a year or so.

People's backups and AC disk will fill up and they won't know why. I had to run windirstat to find it--thought it was just the database and imported items. I would have had to upgrade the SSD had I not found the massive log files.

Thanks for the love from Baltimore. I'll be back in DC at the end of the month to speak at a conference in DC, any beer requests?

To clarify. AC says it's safe to delete the old log files. Just keep the last week or so. Large daily log files are "normal" per AC.

If you don't do this your AC log folder will grow by 21 GB per year! Backups will grow some smaller percentage due to compression.

Look's like another job for Cyber-D autodelete
https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/cyber_ds_autodelete.html

We have been using that handy little program for years to delete the build up of backups created by AC in its own folder. (Which supposedly will not be necessary beginning with an upcoming version). We will start to use it to delete old log files now.

Well, that's where I assumed they would be. I looked there before asking, haven't found them. Are they in a sub folder? I did look at those too. Just don't seem to have the large files described above. Perhaps my old version of AC does not have them? 6.3.3

I only noticed the large log files since about version 10. Previously very small.

Exactly, AC should flag this as an issue, it will lead to problems. Easy to solve with next point release by adding auto delete over 1 yr old log files.

When I asked the tech, they said it's "designed that way" and were incredulous why I was still requesting an escalation to the higher powers.
