I recently have been getting this message in AC " The practice account is not configured in AC. Do want to register your practice" Does anyone know if this is some type of glitch, Or do I have to do something else that was not done when I started with AC.
Thanks
Dru

Hmm, I thought I had responded to this, maybe I didn't save it
You probably need to contact AC tech support.
That said, go to the administrative options, practice (licensing info) and check out the data. You might try refreshing info. Your registration code is tied to your practice name. If it is changed in any way, it will not work. Perhaps this was altered in some way???
Anyway, you probably need to contact AC tech support

Finally got a chance to follow the messaging through. Well it lead to a request to link updox. Well this leads to more questions than answers. If I decide not to continue with linking updox is there a way of offing the message?
How is updox used in AC. Also I see in one of the post that there are cost to this ,although not a prohibitive but a nuisance cost, is there true value to this service? In other words do I need this and is it worth the cost.
Thanks Dru

Dru, The relationship between Updox and AC is complicated. It used to be simple: Updox was an optional add-on at additional cost. If you wanted it, you paid a monthly fee. It had two functions: a portal to communicate with patients and a document management portion that facilitates sending/receiving faxes and messages, and filing documents in AC.
It got more complicated when AC decided to provide a portal for all AC users and chose Updox to be that portal. Now, all AC users can activate the portal and use it to communicate with patients but do not have access to the document management portion.
We have the paid version and find both parts to have value. The pcp in our practice makes reasonably heavy use of the portal to communicate. To me the document management portion is well worth the added cost, though it has grown to be more than just a nuisance. It is a bit hard to describe the value of it, and is best appreciated after playing with it for a while. Our office staff would go into open revolt if we were to cancel it - they love it that much.

Well said, Jon.
I only use the free portion of updox. I have a fax printer that receives faxes, so I do not pay someone else to receive or send them. That said, I understand that the document management portion is good, I just have not found a need in my practice. You should have a portal, and updox is that portal. It makes sending emails with PHI easier since you do not have to encrypt the information otherwise. I do both (encrypt and use the portal) That part is free and I would recommend it.

So do you actually print out the faxes or are they sent to the EHR?

You don't have to pay Updox extra to receive faxes unless you use their eFax number to send or receive.
If you have a local fax telephone number, most newer fax printers (multifunction devices) will receive faxes as TIF images and forward to a folder on a networked PC.
-- If you don't use Updox, you can import these into AC's Imported Items (II), using the import menu. This will require opening the patient's II folder, navigating to the import folder (once), then selecting & labeling each file, and importing. Then on to the next patient, one by one. Also you have to import the whole faxed document, can't select pages to import.
-- Using Updox, a folder can be set up (using Updox Central) to upload any document sent to that folder (by the fax printer) automatically onto the Updox workspace. In Updox, faxes can be marked up, selective pages imported or combined, patient names searched, II folders selected, documents signed off with minimal clicks. For me Updox is a real time saver.
