This is an extension from my initial problem of disc space being consumed by back up. When I had virtually no disc space I could not open AC program on server. I then used the WD 10 app which pop up to create disc space. when I ran it is cleared up some space but when I tried to start AC I got the below message and problems.
"Could not open AC configuration file at C:\program file(x86) system settings. xml. This due to error "Root element missing" This then brought up the AC set up assistant. From which I selected the "this is my main computer" which then brought up a run time error.
So my thinking was that perhaps something on WD 10 was deleted by the create disc space app. So I ran a set point recovery to 10/11/2018 when all was working well. I restated the AC back up services as well. However I'm still getting the same error so it did not fix my problem. I then ran the repair from the add and delete program app. This appears to have run half way when stopped with an error message that flashed I believe stating the it "failed because of interruption". I believe the next step will be to delete AC program and re-install. However this is beginning to look like a problem I recently had when they could not even delete the program and I had to move the program to a different computer and re-install windows before they could get it to work. The thing is my client computers are working so that's a plus. Anyways any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks
Dru

Dru,
This is an issue with the SystemSettings.xml file in your AC directory - more than likely it is zero, and needs to be replaced. delete the empty file, and once you get a good restore/repair, make a copy of it.
Some versions of AC store a backup version elsewhere in another directory; search your installed drive (typically C:) to see if you find a copy.

Indy:
I see it. There are actually two files side by side. One is named "Systemsettings" and it has 0 bytes and was modified yesterday 10/13/2018.
The other is named "Systemsetting.XML.orig" modified 06/06/2018 and has 3.24 kb. This may have been the original that was renamed as some point by tech support. You think I can just switch the names? I'm going to call support tomorrow but bets are they will not be available. Good thing is I can still use my exam room laptops.
Thanks
Dru

You can delete the 0 file, it will never work.
you can try changing the previous file Systemsetting.XML.orig - by removing the .orig and see if that works.

This appears to have been the problem. I was not able see what they did but back tracking the Systemsetting.XML is now not empty. They now want to re-install the program to get some service up and running. This was Scheduled for a different day. I think I'm going to copy that file and have a spare just in case. Anyways thanks for your help.

Hi Folks,
Upon install and upgrade, the Amazing Charts installer will place a copy of your System Settings XML file in a hidden folder: C:\ProgramData\Amazing Charts\AmazingCharts You can copy this out if needed but please do not delete it as the program needs it in certain recovery scenarios. Thanks Anthony
