Yes, MU is dying; beginning in 2017, it will be rolled-up into the MIPS/MACRA program. There will be no more MU, PQRS, eRx, or value based modifiers. AC is doing a lot of work to help deal with MIPS/MACRA in 2017- I will post about that soon. Meanwhile, it is not too late to -fairly easily- participate with PQRS for 2016. Do nothing and your 2016 year activities will lead to a 4% cut due to PQRS in your 2018 payments. (That is on top of MU). The good news is that you can avoid that cut with a modicum of work and cost, even IF you have done absolutely nothing yet for the 2016 year. The key is to use a registry, generally by 2/28/2016, to report on only 20 patients (of which 11 must be Medicare). We have used MDInteractive successfully in the past and will be doing so again this year. The cost is $199 per provider. It takes each of us about 2-3 hours to identify and enter the appropriate patients and data. Guesstimate 4% of your Medicare payments for a year, and if you think that in return for that total it is worth expending a few hours of time and $199, then go ahead and get this done by the end of the month.

Thanks, Koby, you are right. However, the registries have earlier deadlines so they can check the data before submission. So MDInteractive, for example, needs your submission by 2/28.

I used MDInteractive as well - it's pretty easy and the cost was reasonable. If you see a high number of medicare patients it's definitely worth it.

I use PQRSWizard, $219, also very easy to submit. They are taking submission until 2/28/17.

I'd have to pay $219 to do this and it sounds like it would be over $1000 dollars of my time. I also object on moral principles.
Thanks for the info, but please remember that by playing their games, you encourage more of the same type of government over-reach that was the failed MU and will become MACRA. I have heard no apologies for their abject failure and waste of Billions of dollars in MU. I'd like to see all these attempts fall on deaf ears. If they refuse to pay enough for not playing their games, you can quit taking Medicare. (MACRA)
