We are having a very specific problem with Imported Items.
 I can click on various PDF imports they display fine and fast. Using embedded Adobe Reader DC. However when I click on a non-PDF import there is a long delay.
 
 First the blue "busy circle" cursor appears. Then down in the taskbar a Adobe Reader process appears. If you click on it it goes away, like nothing was there. Whole delay is like 15-20 seconds.
 
 Other similar machines don't have the problem. I got a "cleaner" tool to un-install Acrobat Reader DC and reinstalled it, but no change.
 
 Really weird but really annoying to the Dr.
 
 Any ideas?

I get the same delay if I just close the imported items window. That is, it seems to be a delay caused by embedded Adobe Reader DC exiting/closing.
 I looked in Reader DC's preferences wondering if there is something its doing on exit with cloud or network. Didn't find anything.

I have been using Foxit Reader without problems and haven't looked back to dumping Adobe |  |  |

Foxit reader works embedded? So when you click on an import item it appears in the right-hand pane? Or it launches a full reader window? Anyone else use Foxit?
 What do you see as the advantages of it?

Phillip, One option is to go download Adobe 11, the last non-buggered version of Reader without the constant phone-home web connection. We see much better server performance when we use non-Adobe DC. So, either Adobe 11, Sumatra , or Fox-it |  |  |

Had same problem, uninstalled adobe acrobat DC, installed adobe acrobat 11, appears to work again. THANKS for the tip!

Same problems with Adobe DC also. Downloaded Foxit based on above recommendations. So far so good. Will see how it goes.

We had similar problem.  
 I had Acrobat 11.  AC recommended updating to Adobe DC.
 
 There tech went to "Preferences"->"Security Enhanced"->UNSELECTED "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
 
 We'll see if that works.

A few years ago I had intractable problems with Adobe on one of our machines and I took the advice of the tech gurus here and switched to Foxit.  That solved the problem.
 Subsequently when Adobe Reader has acted up on other machines I have done the same thing.
 
 Now I am at about 50/50 in terms of which computers use which pdf reader.
 Foxit virtually never causes a significant problem.

There was a time when Adobe made outstanding software.  Adobe Reader was FAST and had a small foot print.  There other stuff was also second to none.
 Those days are long gone.

I unchecked "enable protected mode at Start up" and AC started crashing every time I looked at PDF. It is becoming painful to look at or sign imported PDF files. Does anyone has other suggestions (other than giving up on Adobe)? |  |  |

Same issue with Adobe reader DC.... here's what I did:Uninstall Adobe Reader DC
 Go to the adobe download page and download the previous version Adobe Reader XI
 Make sure it's set as the default application for opening PDFs
 Then, what was happening was that I would click on an imported item to sign off, and it would open it in a separate window.... So I went into my internet explorer browser and went:  Tools -->  Internet Options -->  Programs -->  Manage Add-ons  -->  Clicked on Adobe Reader and Disabled it, then went through the whole sequence and re-Enabled it, and now everything is working the way it was.  NOt sure if this will work for everyone, but worth a shot... I'm using windows 10 and AC 9.x.  Good luck

Also, should open Adobe Reader --->  Preferences  --->  Updater --->  and select do not download updates  (otherwise it may automatically upgrade you back to Reader DC)
