We sell generics in the office and currently are writing labels by hand on formatted labels.

I am looking for a software solution that can print labels out on a Dymo or similar label printer. It simply needs to be able to print labels but it would be nice if it could also:
- manage inventory
- run reports
- interface with AC

Does anybody else sell generics in their office?
What software do you currently use or how do you label the bottles?

Thanks for the input.

The regular dymo printer works with dymo software which is surprisingly versatile. Very easy interface to format labels.
There is also a option to print labels from a data source. YOu could create an inventory on an excel document and use that as data source and I am sure there would be a way for it to count down the inventory...

Thanks for the idea! I never thought of giving the Dymo software a try.

We have 8 Dymos in the office. But, only to print labels for letters and labs. We use our own software. You still need the Dymo software installed for the drivers.

You can use .csv and excel to make address books, etc. I have made address books of all patients and all patient families. But, I have never printed directly from Excel. They also make twin turbo Dymo printers which allows you to put in two sizes of labels. This can be helpful.

Dr_AJ suggests an interesting thought. I don't quite see how the Dymo software would be able to track inventory for you. But, maybe it can. Please let us know.

Good luck.

Well at this point I have demoed a program called The Dispenser 13 written with FileMaker by a programmer/doctor but it was not as user-friendly as I wanted.

So I gave Dymo LabelWriter 8 a shot. Tried it on two Windows machines and the same bug/issue came up that wouldn't allow me to properly prepare a label.

Like I mentioned earlier, my priority was - and now its the only one - to have a solution/program to print the medicine label to stick over the bottle....simple enough just so that we don't have to handwrite it.
I was hoping to do this in Excel where I already have a spreadsheet of our medicine and qty etc. but either my knowledge of excel or Excel itself is too limited to accomplish that.

So I am trying to learn some basic Access to create a small database of our medicines, patients, and sigs to be able to print this out to the Dymo labels. From a couple friends of mine that unfortunately dont know any more Access than I do, it seems like the way to go. If anybody knows of an easier method please help me!

Bert, I just read your post again...what software do you use aside from Dymo? I don't care if it tracks inventory, etc. I just want to print out labels using our address book and medicine list name from Excel.

It doesn't need to be fancy. It would just need the essentials..something like this:

---------------------------------
Practice Name
Dispensing Dr
Medicine Name:
NDC#:

Directions: Take 1 tablet .....
Patient Name:
DOB:
---------------------------------

I can remote in and show you how to set up dymo with no errors. It may be difficult to get all that info on one label. We can pm about it.
