Has anyone actually tried getting a 2nd server certified as a backup with the new security measures amazing charts has implemented. I have been on the phone all weekend with support, my laptop that I take to the nursing facilities and which houses a separate database from my office patient's database (is a server in its own right) has been getting wonky that is the display intermittently goes black or gets a bunch of vertical lines and then when I adjust it a little it'll be good for a while only to happen again. Seeing this happening I decided to get a 2nd laptop certified as a server and to transfer amazing charts and the database from the 1st laptop to the 2nd laptop so that once up and running I could get the 1st laptop fixed. Was able to get the program certified, then sent the database to support which did their playing around with it, they returned it loaded it into the 2nd laptop and it seemed to work for a couple of minutes and then started getting the database not accessible or some such error message making it not usable. So support tech David and I spent many hours over the weekend with him working on the 2nd laptop, he was able to get AC up and running for a short time and then get the same error message that the database was not accessible or not certified. I am wondering is amazing charts phoning home realizing I still have laptop #1 that still has the program and the database on it and that is why after a short time it denatures amazing charts database in laptop #2. David said this will have to go to a level II techs support which never responded to me all day yesterday and not yet today. Sorry for the rambling post-I just wanted to let people know in case they think they have a safety net out there that it may not be true.

Update: The issue was fixed but only by making the original laptop a client of the 2nd laptop so if I am right then you can't have a real 'spare' server hanging around without intervention from above or deleting AC from the first server before 'turning on' the second.

If you want a secondary backup server, the best way is to implement some form of replication. Essentially a secondary server that replicates from the primary at a fixed interval.

This strikes me as a major disadvantage of A.C. post v.8. You can't switch server computers without help from A.C. headquarters, and if they happen to be unavailable then you're out of luck. On principle, I am also against the idea of another business entity having control over access to my data in this way.

Having the same issue. AC support installed AC as main on a back up server but is has fake data and the license they issue is a temporary license and valid for 24 hrs (or less). I could not install the new version of AC on back up server because of licensing issues. Have been trying to reach for tech support all week without luck. It is frustrating!

Naeem,
I have a question. I just have always wondered this. It sounds like you wanted AC to install on the "new" backup server so you could use it when you needed, but it wouldn't work because of the fake data.
What if you had uninstalled the AC app, reinstalled it as a main computer with 8.0 or whatever, thereby making it a non-virgin computer. Or taking the .xml file out so you couldn't make a mistake and connect to it. Then, when you needed it, you could install over it. Just wondering.

Regardless of the previous version, if you install 9.2 or higher on a machine that AC hasn't credentialed, it won't work.

The older versions do not open the data file of the new version. And AC does not let you install the program on two PCs as the main. So, in the event of server failure, I am at the mercy of the support and it is getting harder and harder to reach them.

Calling experts...
How does this work for Virutal machines (VMs)?
Say my main server hardware crashes. Can i restore a backup to a newly spun server VM on backup hardware? What if the VM is setup the same as the old one? Still need to call AC for credentialing?
Does hyper-v replica work? Can i fail-over to the replica and expect AC to work without an AC call for credentialing?
