One of my computers managed to upgrade itself to Windows 10 when I wasn't looking. Now if I try to login to AC in the Cloud the screen goes black and the computer restarts. Any suggestions? Thanks.

John,
I know that someone is out there thinking it, so I'll just say it. Rollback to W7.
Are you using a Remote App, or a full RDC link?
Try manually connecting to that, or another RDC session, and see if it connects successfully.
Three thoughts: <1> Try reinstalling the latest RDC to see if that solves the issue. <2> Check the settings to see if the display settings in the connection are compatible <3> Check your video driver - it could be that w10 can't run other display settings without a new driver.

As an aside, there is a class-action lawsuit brewing over the Microsoft forced upgrades.
I predict the end result will be more lawyers getting rich(er), and no change in behavior from M$.
As slow as corporate IT is to change, Windows servers are being replaced with *nix servers, and laptops are being replaced Chromebooks because the $$$$$ drives change.

John, I can blame Indy for my Chromebook fascination, really nice tool at point of care, I prefer at least a 14 inch matte screen, and VNC viewer made for Chrome Enterprise version with 256 bit encryption turns the Chromebook into your dual monitored virtual desktop & if you want to get a bit fancier use an 8 inch HDMI extender to keep in chromebook all day long to minimize wear & tear on native HDMI port and hook to large screen, wall mounted with a 10 foot HDMI cord, to turn into a great visual aid at point of care. Works quite well. Also if you decide on a chromebook , would recommend the two step authentication, so if someone tries to sign in with your gmail account, have to have your phone too, to get 6 digit security code. A BIG THANK YOU TO INDY for the introduction to a chromebook in Laramie in 2014 !

Re. Rogue Windows 10 Install:
I too had several computers with the annoying notification to install Windows 10. One of my computers actually started doing it, but fortunately I was able to abort it. I went for a couple of months without doing any windows updates on that machine. The culprit reportedly is Windows Update KB 3035583. If you ever see it on your list of available updates, right click on it and left click to hide it. Microsoft seems to send that update out again every 2-4 weeks or so; be vigilant.
Fortunately, after quite a bit of research, I came across a program that will nuc the Windows 10 updates, but will still allow you to install it when you are ready. The program is "GWX Control Panel". Do your own due diligence (Google it), but I strongly recommend installing and using it. It's free, but I found it so useful but I am going to send the developer a contribution nonetheless. I have installed in on eight machines and get no more Windows 10 notifications nor automatic "upgrade".
It is also recommended that you set your Windows Updates so that RECOMMENDED UPDATES are NOT downloaded the same way that you get IMPORTANT UPDATES. It is generally safer to not set the windows updates to download and install automatically, to avoid what happened to John Howland.
Another issue that you can run into if Windows 10 automatically updates is that if you have older peripherals (scanners, printers, etc.) for which no windows 10 driver is available, you'll need to buy new peripherals. That's exactly what happened to our IPA executive director.
I would appreciate Indy's thoughts on GWX Control Panel.

Why so much consternation over Windows 10? Are people having a lot of AC problems with it in general? Supposedly it will be free for a while, and then they will start charging to upgrade. I did install Windows 10 on a laptop, and now it gets several graphics card errors per day. There is no apparent fix I can find online. Otherwise, is just seems a little slower and uglier, like a failed attempt to mimic OS X.

Indy, Thanks for the invite, but Tahoe may be tough to swing, but good luck with your conference! Just saw this review on the Acer chromebook and wondering if you have had a chance to try this one out. I currently have an HP 14" which has been working well. http://mashable.com/2016/06/02/acer-chromebook-14-review/#M9y6yT_T5qqf

When it goes over $500 Mil, they will say sorry. What would actually change their behavior is if there was enough publicity attached to their egregious behavior that it impacted the stock price.

WINDOWS 10 continues to be a problem. I thought I would try to upgrade the work stations before the free upgrade runs out in July. Updox and Java did not play well, and Updox was crashing the reception machine after the upgrade. Updox tech support tried to uninstall, but every attempt would lock down the computer. Granted, it's a Core 2 Duo, and it may be too much for the old girl, but MS said it was qualified to upgrade. I think I'll roll it back to Windows 7, but she's due for an upgrade anyway.
The newer nurses station, an i3 processor, says it cannot upgrade because the Dell monitor is not compatible. This makes no sense to me.
Upgrade on the laptop causes many graphics driver/card errors. Upgrade on my station has no problems, running in Parallels. Have not touched the "server" yet, and don't want to.

WINDOWS 10 continues to be a problem ...... Have not touched the "server" yet, and don't want to. I have yet to hear a persuasive argument for Windows 10 for existing machines. W7 will be supported through the lifetime of machines running it.

Thanks Indy. They are in a rush to get everyone "upgraded," and who know why? I think it is because Windows 10 allows them to push service packs automatically, so it is never a finished product and always a work in progress. You won't have a choice, anymore, about upgrading. Windows 10, I've read, also reports user data to the company, that some may consider a violation of privacy.

End of life on windows 7 is January 2020. After that those machines are not considered HIPPA compliant due to no more security updates.
Windows 10 is the last version of windows micro$oft will release. From now on, windows will be considered "windows as a service" and will get annual updates/upgrades and "fixes" infinitely. Anyone that upgraded to Win 10 from win 7 or 8 or 8.1 received a digital entitlement for windows 10 and that machine windows 10 was installed on will get all updates for windows for "the useful life" of the hardware. Therefore, at some point your machine's hardware will be obsolete, not get updates, and be HIPPA not complaint and force you to buy a new computer. At that time, Windows (latest build version) will be the only option....
So, just update to Windows 10, turn off all the telemetry/tracking/spying (do an internet search for how) and be happy you got a free upgrade. Just my $.02

My personal view on the Windows 10 Upgrade is that if your computers are old, don?t bother. If you bought your computer in the last year or two, go for the upgrade. Why? Windows 7 is supported until 2020. 5-7 Years is the usual life cycle of modern desktops. Desktops from 2014 will be 6 years old by the time Windows 7 goes out of support. Most likely you?ll want to get new machines anyways. So if you have any newer machines (1-2 years old), it would be a good idea to redeem the upgrade to Windows 10. It's still being offered after July 29.
