Both JBS and Marty-PA are presenting right now.
It is great to see so many friends and clients. Looking forward to the rest of the conference and our "Live & Uncensored" with John Squire tomorrow @ 5:30.
Per the old ACUC standard, I'm the man in the hat.

It has been too many years! So glad this conference is back. As always, so good to see long time friends and meet new ones. Sitting in the Version 9.0 presentation. The hand out is spectacular and makes it easy to go back to the clinic with something I can refer to when explaining the updates and improvements!

Sitting in Wendell's lecture right now. Having a great time down here. Always learning something about Amazing Charts. Version 9 has so many great improvements, can't wait to install it in the office!

Great to see everyone. I think version 9 is going to be a good move for most.

Something for everyone at the ACUC... Everything from new tips that save a few clicks to bigger workflow changes. V9 looks like the real deal. It may be time to rethink the way we do some things (in a good way). A ZdoggMD video was a big hit with Nisha's audience and her talk was excellent.

Final day at ACUC. This is bittersweet in so many ways. Glad to have seen so many familiar faces and renew friendships. Likewise the new faces and contacts will no doubt prove invaluable to our practice.
Although I am sure all of us as attendees would love to spend a few more days here getting as much AC goodness as possible, I personally am excited to return to our office and get to work streamlining our practices and working much more efficiently.
Thanks again for all your hard work, infectious enthusiasm, unrelenting support and "amazing" talents!

I have to echo Sky's comments. The conference has been AMAZING. I've been so busy that I started this thread but have not kept up with it. There were so many things I picked up, (see, I'm not really a know it all )Sorry it's all over. Weather is beautiful today (was raining yesterday) and would be a great day to hang out, but I'll be heading home soon. It was wonderful catching up with old friends and making new ones. Anyway looking forward to heading back home and to the office

Thanks to all who attended -- so I didn't have to go to Orlando! I am especially interested in version 9-- and apparently it is getting good reviews.
1. Can you upgraded directly from 6.3.3?
2. The release notes state that a "new" install will put a 64-bit version of SQL 2012 on the server, but an "upgrade" will preserve the 32-bit version. What is the practical significance of that? Is it possible to do a "new" install, and migrate all the old files and programs over?
3. Does it include a practice manager? Does it work? Medware is venerable, but rather long of tooth.
4. What about all the "meaningful use" baggage? Any ideas about how that is really going to come down?

1) Yes 2) You could uninstall SQL 32 bit prior to "upgrading" and it will put in 64 bit instead. 64 bit is a little faster. 3) If you sign up for ACPM it will connect, but that is an optional upgrade 4) All the MU stuff is there. There are still people jumping through those hoops. But the speed is back.

Thank you very much Wendell.
How about if I delete the entire AC file, install virgin 9.x, then use a 6.3.3 backup to get back to my own files? Will it back up like that?
I suppose I should be asking Guardian Angel -- but often I get better help from this forum!

Installing a virgin 9.x should work with a 6.3.3 backup. If you uninstall AC, it might not uninstall SQL, so you might also have to delete that as well.
A question is whether your backup files work, as I have seen backup files that do not easily restore. While I have not done a 6.3.3 to 9.x, I suspect that alone should not be an issue. You would have to do a database tune before you could open it. The tuner can take a while to run going from 8 to 9, so it will probably take longer with a 6.3.3
I would recommend doing a dummy trial where you take an unrelated computer, install 9.0, do the restore from the 6.3.3 database and tune. If it works you can take a backup of that and put on the clean install V9 you do on the actual server and just restore the V9 backup from the test. If it doesn't work, you know ahead of time without erasing a working system. Then you could call for help with the restore.
But then, how large is your system and database. Will you really benefit from going to SQL 64 vs 32. On a small system without a lot of users, you might not see that much of a gain. Which means, before you put in all the work to create the 64 clean install, know that you are getting the performance gains making it worthwhile. The easiest route would be just to upgrade in place your current 6.3.3 and leave SQL intact at 32 bit.

Of course it is your specialty, Leslie. Can you explain how you use it in Epic? All you need to do is come back and you can take back your titles as Princess of Paperport and Her Royal Highness of Shortkeys. I believe the "Duchess of Donkeys" title has never been taken.

I will say that when Jon mentioned Paperport & Short-keys, you were the first person to come to mind Leslie.

Thanks Wendell
V6.3.3 is working really well, but I am intrigued by the possibilities of V9.x
We have about 10 users, not always all at one time, and the database currently is around 21GB and growing fast.
I hear so many things about the SQL2011 program -- that it doesn't use multiple cores in the CPU, that 32 bit limits the memory it can access, etc.
I also see that some people are having trouble with the Quest Lab interface -- and I can't even imagine what would happen with the hospital interface.
I think I will wait a little longer.

HAHAHA, thanks, guys. Nice to know I have a legacy somewhere!. Unfortunately, I cannot use either Shortkeys or Paperport in Epic. Hell, this huge medical entity cannot even fax to PC!!!! They are still scanning everything in. I cringe at the thought of all the trees sacrificed just for this one corporation. I cannot tell you how many times since I have been here my staff has heard me say, "well in my OLD office...." And, John, sorry to say the Duchess of Donkeys is now donkeyless.....didn't think I could drag them across country to Oregon....at least not if they were not pulling their own weight or a Conastoga wagon!
