Hi everyone, years past....I've been no longer active due to health related issues and we merged into a University cloud based system. Feeling sad as AC deleted my posts, till 2011...probably some of my predictions became true.... We received the MU audit letter asking for AC version confirmation and time of our attestation in 2011 also the risk analysis at the time. Those auditors gave us 2 weeks to get them the needed docs. I tried to contact AC 2 weeks ago right at the time of auditing doc request and was informed of the fee 150.00 to get the official version confirmation 6.3.3. Make it short, 2 weeks and after couple emails back and forth but nothing happened. My paypal ready but AC not moving... I tried to call but needed to leave message. Any of our members having any experience dealin gwith MU audit? Auditors gave the Dec 22 as the deadline else want their 18K back.....Hello Bert, still owes you the tickets to get out of office for a month, probably we all well know that above 50 percent docs burning out...except younger docs I bet.

Walter,

I reached out to AC on your behalf and hopefully someone will (or has already) contact you.

Let us know if that doesn't happen.

Hello Walter,

First and foremost, we do apologize for the miscommunication in regards to your situation. In order to prevent this scenario in the future with our clients I wanted to elaborate what our policy and processes involve. On our website we offer services tailored specifically to Meaningful Use and among these services is audit assistance. This service consists of determining what is necessary to complete an audit based on requested documentation from the auditing company. In the event the client only requires a Meaningful Use Certification letter there would be no charge as this is a free service to everyone. Please keep in mind that we triage these requests based on the audit deadline and complexity so it is important to submit a request as soon as the audit is issued. This provides us ample time to review the request and work with our clients to ensure it is done in a timely manner. This also requires that we look into your account to verify any information regarding the version you had during the audited year among other things. In order to reduce any discrepancies with this process we ask that our clients clarify exactly what they need for the audit so that we can better determine whether or not it would be a fee based service and handle appropriately.

Again, we do apologize for any frustration that you experienced with this process and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention so that we can clarify for our community as a whole.

Thank you

Is there no statue of limitation?
Can the Meaningful Use Mafia threaten and harass at any time from creation to incineration?
MU-1 first year was so long ago, so much has changed, proficiency with the process has improved a little. "mistakes were made".

What is the actual authority of these private thugs?
Do they make up their own laws as they go along?
Are they really just like repo men?

According to CMS, you can be audited up to 7 years past your attestation date. This means audits for 2011 will continue till the end of 2018.

I am sorry to be posting something negative in this regards but had a similar experience. I emailed and called a couple of times and no one from AC got back until after the deadline was over. I had to payback 18k.

I had a similar experience unfortunately. I appealed twice because we actually have all the documentation and met all the goals of MU 1. However, the accounting company still rejected it. So I am expecting to get an invoice for the 18k any day. At least my accountant said I can use the 18k as a right off. I really think the whole thing was a scam by CMS to make themselves look good in the eyes of the public that they were advancing technologically. My second appeal took less than 24 hours for the accounting company to reject it. CLEARLY this means they did not look at it at all! But what can you do !

Call your US Representative and Senators especially if you have solid documentation, I wonder if the 'accounting company' gets a % of the return as a bonus???
Fight this, I'm sure your US Representative has a staff member who deals with health care matters.
Make the Accounting Company sweat, ask them who in their company is the contact person for whom the office of The Hon. "Your representative name here" should correspond with.

Good idea Koby ! The accounting company is not doing it for free. I heard from my IT guy that everyone he has dealt with has lost their appeals. He has not seen any doctor successfully make it through an audit. (BTW...my IT guy is not in the business of fighting the appeals, he just hears the bitching from the various practices).

How do we know that these "auditors" aren't just criminals running an extortion ring?
Is there really no appeal?
What if you don't pay up. Do they break legs?

Speaking from ignorance since I'm not doing MU it's likely if not paid up by date Medicare stops reimbursements until total paid out is received and probably levies a penalty.
Maybe I'm paranoid but this is smelling like unsavory private elements have figured how to make money off another poorly designed federal system.

I think your friendly Congressman or woman were the ones wo passed CCHIt, HIPAA and MU 1 through 12. And, I am sure their consitutents in their states love knowing tha the physicians will be audited. It was likely they would audit when they started given so much was dependent on attestation. I don't think there is much you can do. The whole MU was a really bad idea to start with.

When the Congressperson hears of the potential of losing another Medicare/Medicaid provider for their constituents and that it may be based on fraud from a government contracted agency, things can happen. If not there is 60 Minutes. Of course you better be prepared for the bright light.
