Hi,

Anyone planning to attest for 2015? I find CMS purposed modified stag 2 for this year, and it should be easier, is this true?

Best,

That is my understanding, always subject to error!

As of today I cannot find it in print where CMS actually came through and reduced meaningful use 2 to 90 days as had been expected by us all. Maybe it is time for a class action lawsuit or a petition to the white house. I am sure we could easily get 100,000 signatures to make Dr. Obama at least take notice..but I digress...he was too busy renaming a mountain in Alaska and fly fishing...must be the heat..sorry for the rant

You're right. As of yesterday, the proposed 2015 Bill was not finalized. We are in limbo. I can't imagine that the final bill will not be accepted any day now..

For those of you who are paying attention to such things, CMS did today approve the final rule regarding the 90 day reporting period and some other interesting aspects of meaningful use.

This shows the change to 90 day reporting period for 2015. I'm wondering about the other proposed changes, like changing the messaging from a required 5% to yes/no the option is available if patient chooses. That's the only requirement we are failing, we have practically been begging people to message us.

yes, it has all been changed for the better, finally. Ya gotta read your academy's synopsis, I would suggest.

Not better enough.
I'm afraid to attest -

Our sister practice has an aggressive (but scrupulously honest) office manager, and a younger population -- they attested early for MU2. Then immediately got hit with an audit!. Cost them untold $$ and time and frustration -- they finally passed.

What with potential audits to challenge compliance with HIPAA, MU, security, ICD-10, and who knows what else-- it just isn't worth the few measly "incentive" bucks, not to mention the frustration with "electronic" communication (that doesn't communicate -- remember the era of a well-composed clinical summary one a single page of easily-read type?)

Possibly this will be sorted out in 2016. In the mean time, I'm holding tight with 6.3.3, and no MU.

Tom: I just switched. Can I encourage you to go to V8, not for the MU but all the improvements? It really is better. I see a minimal speed difference, but I did upgrade my main computer from a Core 2 Duo (5 years old) to an i7 4Ghz.

I agree with you, and stopped after one attestation when CMS released third party, paid on commission hatchet men to go out and get their money back whenever possible through audits. It's not worth the risk, and within 5 years (stick instead of carrot) it won't be worth dealing with them at all.

Boondoc: Very soon -- when V8.1.5 is out of Beta -- I will put it on a sandbox.
My server is a fast Xeon, and I have a similar i7 on my office desktop, which I plan to use for the sandbox.

Bert -- is there any problem with putting complete v8 on the office desktop along with v 7 client? Are they mutually exclusive? At present, my office desktop is just a client and doesn't have the database on it.
I was hoping to set up the desktop as a temporary "server" and a few of the office client machines as temporary "clients" (in peer-to-peer) to test it out in a realistic setting.

Can I do that without running V8 in Virtual Box?

My doc just opened her own solo family practice this past January. My question for her is , How does she satisfy MU measures for Clinical Summaries when she does not sign off her notes within the 3 day time period? Does the Plan Summary satisfy the MU measure?

I'm not attesting this year, but in the past we printed, or at least 'print previewed' the plan summary for the patient. She can do that and give to the patient, or send to the patient Updox portal, before she signs the note. Of course all this is easier if you just finish your note while you are with the patient. I would write the plan as if I'm talking to the patient, not the chart, and then give it to them. For example, "For your high cholesterol, I recommend you start atorvastatin and..."
