Need help picking a scanner for medical records. Any suggestions on what other offices use? Currently are using a Canon. Tried to upgrade to printer/scanner from Ricoh that has a twain driver like recommended but it wont work because, per tech support, it has be be connected via usb. So confused. Please give recommendations! Cant seem to get any response from the emails I've sent.

I cannot recommend strongly enough that you get a Fujitsu ScanSnap. It comes with Adobe, the full version, worth the price alone. This scanner is fantastic. Really, look no further. See the parallel thread on "Going Paperless" and Sandeep's excellent guides:

We recommend the Fijitsu ScanSnap as well. We use the S1500 and they are very durable and easy to use. I agree with Boondoc don't waste time shopping around.

Agree, Fujitsu is the way to go. We have a ScanSnap S1500. Bought it in '12 and it has heavy daily use in a 4 provider practice and zero problems.

Thank you for the input! Do you all find it easier to scan to a folder on the desktop and then import to the patient's file? I had thought that this would be more time consuming than going to "imported items, import new, scan & then titling it".

You can also see the threat that is active to the left: scan directly to updox. This is generally what we do as it allow you to quickly send to the EHR and select a wider range of categories than AC normally gives you. You can also just drag and drop from your desktop into imported items, but you still need to title it, categorize it, and so on.

Just for reference, the ix500 has replaced the S1500. It's got some new features, but it's basically the same scanner.

We find drag/drop to be pretty simple for most practices. They're all about the same speed-wise. However, there are some people out there who use two screens with the drag-and-drop method. They are the fastest when it comes to importing items.

But, in order to use these specific machines and "drag & drop", we would have to have the updox subscription instead of the basic free options that we currently have from Amazing Charts, is that correct?

It is a feature of Amazing Charts that allows you to drop imported items into the chart, whether PDF's, x-ray images, or whatever.
