I was discussing sending information to a physician today who uses eClinicalWorks. He said their system doesn't use DIRECT, but instead uses their own proprietary system called P2P. Does anyone know about this? And why did eCW have to hire their own drummer?

Reason = GREED: "There has been speculation that eCW intends to charge other HISPs for exchanging Direct messages..."

What I have heard is that several EMR vendors choose to build islands because that was enough to win certification, which was all they were looking to accomplish.
