With v7 you must or can codify the insurance companies. If you do not use AC for coding or billing, is this a necessity?

I don't use AC for billing or printing bills & have never codified insurances (ver. 8.2.4). Everything works. I was worried about not sending the right patient insurance info to do eRx, but apparently SureScripts has its own database.

Bert,

If you do not codify, the check in with the copay amounts will not show up. It will appear as if it is zero.
If you do not use this feature, then the only other issue I see is when you forward demographics for referrals.. information will not list it.

So, the second part would be an issue. I just get worried that my biller/coder will convert these and they will be wrong. She does state that when they have say BC/BS of multiple states, they only go to Connecticut.

I have installed a VM for her to practice but at this point she has not. I don't want to install it on the server and then have them wrong. If they are one thing in Medware and one thing in AC, there may be a problem.

Are the insurance companies already "codified" in Medware (eMedware or Sage -- same thing) correct?

I think it is a good idea, I just worry we may screw them up. Does AC support log in and help or am I making this out to be too difficult.

Thanks to chazli and John.

Bert,
Codifying the insurances is not too difficult (of course it was my staff doing this, so that's easy for me to say).
The surprise we experienced is that if you do NOT codify, then if you print the demos the insurance information does not show up on the print out. I don't know if this is important to your work flow for billing or not. It was for us, so we codified. It is an ongoing process as you can take care of many patients with one set of clicks (Medicaid, Medicare) but others will be done as you go along.

Thanks Jon. I just want my biller to be comfortable with this. So far, she hasn't taken any steps to do so. I did try it myself on a VM, and the Medicaid/Medicare was simple. For me though, as you stated, it is a little more difficult with the private insurances which can be from many states, etc. And, now that BC/BS has purchased Cigna making insurance much more fair and affordable, it is even more confusing.
