much as a single hiccup. It's fast and effective.
I'm not interested in Meaningful Use.
Is there anything that I need to know that would convince me to upgrade to v8 at this point? I already have a staffer trained to convert ICD 9 codes in our billing software in October, so that doesn't scare me either.

BamaDoc, I went from 6.3.3 to 8 a few weeks ago. I could list a series of improvements that I would describe as "nice" but none of which have had a major impact. The one that I most looked forward to, the improved letter writer, is a disappointment. The major downside is the drop-off in speed which I would describe as highly variable but not rare.

Thanks for the input, folks.
I suppose I'll wait until I see a thread filled with glowing remarks about v8 before I transition. That may be a while.

I think being able to have more than one pharmacy with the prescription writer has been quite helpful.

Agreed, Jim. That is on my list of "nice" improvements. While we are talking about eRx, An updated list of meds is helpful, too. (And that upgrade seems to come with newer versions).
And Jim... welcome back!

Thanks Jon, Another feature quite helpful is being able to pick the most specific code to prepare for ICD10 in the fall.

Oh yeah... and the spell checker is much improved/fixed. Also, looking up meds is easier.

One of the most inane things about 6.3.3 is how it puts mixed case medications in, but has a spell checker with a bug: you can't turn on mixed case error flagging! That stuff drives me crazy. Still running 6.3.3, but will need to code in ICD-10. That will probably cause me to switch to v8. I am so sick of writing notes, though, that I almost can't stand it.

One of the questions to ask your self is do you need to upgrade to code the chart in ICD10?
As Donna has discussed elsewhere, you (or staff) can manually put the codes in the chart, or you can also code completely outside of the EMR, as some do already.
We have reached the inflection point where physicians are revisiting business and practice style decisions to determine what trade-offs are available to them in how they practice medicine.
