Previously, when a patient called, I recorded the discussion in the messaging section, which was saved in the "Past Encounters". It was easy to review later. Click the "Past Encounters" and it was all there. It could be easily printed/faxed together.

For example: Before Updox: I would see a patient for seizure once. Following that, I may record 10 patient conversations regarding adverse effects, medication changes, etc. over the next few months. ER doc calls. Patient had another seizure. I look at "Past Encounters" and everything his right there. One mouse click and all the records are faxed over.

After Updox, the patient now communicates through the portal. After each conversation is over, I "Send to EHR". Now, it lands up as a .pdf in the imported items section! Depending upon who is filing, it could land up in any of the folders.

Same situation after Updox: ER physician calls. I look in the past encounters and there is one encounter. Dig through the imported items and find random messages in different folders. ER physician asks me to fax over records. I get ready to rip my two strands of hair still remaining.

AC please create a default "Patient Messages" Imported items folder for Updox. Even better: please have the messages save in the "Past Encounters".

Any other work-around recommendation from the board will be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

This is a good suggestion. It would also be nice to add your own custom folder defintions...ones that could be added to all charts automatically. Because I don't think the developers can think of EVERYTHING. But they could build in the flexibilty for you to add small things. Like a folder that you need.
Depends on the definiition of "small" in this context. smile

Zak,

You can create your own categories in Updox which will be your Imported Items categories. Go to Updox>Menu>Admin>Categories>Add. The categories can be moved around which is handy. I have set up a "Patient Communication" folder and several others in this way.

I'd like to see enhancements in the Risk Factors sections. For instance, if I click on Past Medical History: Hypertension for a new patient, it should add this to the problem/diagnosis list. Its not really helpful if you have to go input things 2 or 3 times in different places in the system.Similarly, if an established patient develops Type 2 Diabetes and I add that diagnosis, it should be reflected in the Risk Factors.

Both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes should be listed separately in the Risk Factors.

We need to be able to add our own Risk Factors. That, or they need to quickly add them when /if we request them. Or think to add them on their own. For example, we'd like to have Family History of Colon Cancer added as a risk factor, and International Traveler as a risk factor in Social History. And if there are ICD codes for these issues, then checking them should result in them being added to the patients "problem list".

John and Wayne,
Thank you for your posts. John thank you for the pointer. That fixed the issue. Just a correction: Updox>Admin>Practice Profile>Categories>Add.
I still miss having it all in one place to review and send in one swift click.

Zak -
Steve here, down the street.
I have the exact same situation - I rely on using "Past Encounters" as a running list of all interactions.
I deal with it with Updox by tagging any patient communications for attention of my staff, and they post to the "Past Encounters" section instead of filing in imported items. A little more work but pays off when looking for a virtual conversation thread.
Steve

Hi Steve,
Funny connecting this way : ).
For the general knowledge of the board: How are you doing this? Cut and Paste?
Thanks!
