All over this board there is mention of version 8.02 being slower. Nobody appears to have a significant problem with this. I made the decision to upgrade from 6.7 to 8.02 over the weekend. When testing the computers after the upgrade they functioned well. However this morning after everyone was on their computers MAJOR SLOWNESS!!!. To the point where some computers slowed to a crawl. Server is running Server 2008 and has 16 G of RAM. I had an issue with speed previously when running V6.7 and tested all wiring and connections and found no problem with the hardware. I am weary of calling support. Last time I called(saturday) I had waited 5 hours and had to leave the office. This morning when I came in I received a message from the answering service that support called at 8 oclock this am.
I am wondering if I made a mistake to upgrade.
Any ideas.

Raj,
How many computers/users are on your network?

Hi Raj,

We feel your pain. About 2 1/2 years ago we went through similar problems after an upgrade, two weeks of AC running very very slowly.

It was actually Sandeep who figured out the workaround.

Please contact him, his contact information is listed with his signature. He really is unbelievably good with stuff like this.

Good luck!

It shouldn't be THAT much slower.

Sometimes restarting everything will help.

Might be worth opening up Amazing Utilities and checking Amazing Charts, perhaps repairing connections.

Try pinging* the server from the various computers to see if it is a network issue. If you have > 1.0 sec lag, there may be a network issue

*Amazing Utilities/Advanced Options/test speed to/from the database

Hi Raj,

A couple of things. You mentioned you had this issue before, and your network worked fine. So, I am assuming your were able to fix the issue you had with 6.7?

Are you using the chat feature with support or only calling. I think most have discovered you have much more luck connecting with support using chat.

I am not sure if I follow one point, but I will try to see if I understand. I you saying that when you try AC on an individual computer, it works fine, but when everyone came in FOR THE FIRST TIME and all used AC at once that you had the issue? This would be helpful to know. If it only happens when a certain number of computers are in use, this may lead to the issue.

I don't remember when, where, how or why or even what, but at one point there was an issue with speed, I think maybe ePrescribing; not sure. But, Sandeep recommended turning off hardware acceleration. I have no idea if this would help.

Raj,

We have been dealing with several new clients in various stages of v7/v8 upgrades.

Here are a couple of key questions that will help us help you::

<>How many computers connect to the AC server?

<>What other services connect to the AC database? PM interfaces etc? Updox? Do you use Updox schedule functions?

I am between clients on the road today, but should be reachable tomorrow.

Best,

Indy

Support called today and remote into the server. He stated that there were no issues with the server. He did the same with all the workstations and got more speed when Kapearsky? antiviral software was turned off on workstation. He could not get into one workstation and the other workstation was so slow that he gave up and will discuss this with secondary support and get back with me. The answer to the questions above: No I do not use updox and no other program or interfaces are connected to the database. Bert, the speed issue with 6.7 was never resolved. It came to a point where I gave up and decided to upgrade thinking that this would solve the problem. When I am the only one in the office and I am the only one using AC the computer is extremely fast. When others come on the speed slows down to a crawl. It is not one specific workstation because I have told my nurse to start their computer after me then the front desk. At a time 5-6 computers are connected to the server. Support also noted that one computer had 4 gig of RAM only and needs to be physically upgraded (that is the slowest one, but was purchased last week).
Tomorrow will be another day and hopefully not as frustrating as today. I will keep you abreast of any changes that fixed the problem. Support states they will get back to me.
THANK YOU to everyone with their suggestions.

Four GB of RAM is plenty. In today's world, eight is very cheap. But, four should not cause AC to be slow. As I stated it is very helpful to know this info.

My first step would be to try starting with the other computers one by one. What I mean is at lunch have no other computers using AC. Maybe even turn them off. Start with the SLOWEST computer with the 4GBs of RAM. You can even see how much RAM is being used by using the Task Manager.

If by adding one by one, it becomes slower and slower, it is >90% chance that this is due to a network issue. Especially, if starting one by one with different computers, it becomes slower each time. This will show it has nothing to do with AC. I do not see HOW it could be related to AC. Most users will always think AC first where I would think your network first.

Somehow, it is very likely that your bandwidth is not what you think it is. And, each time you add another computer, it is requiring more bandwidth on your network.

Check your switch and make sure it is working correctly. Make sure it is a GB switch. Make sure all of your computers have a GB network card. Make sure your cable is Cat5e or higher.

If you are unable to fix the problem, then rather than wasting all your time, contact a local computer installer (not Best Buy), someone with network experience with Microsoft credentials. Pay them to come out and watch what happens. I can almost guarantee you they will find the problem.

If this does not solve the problem, I will help you pay for the service call up to $150. It is the Mighty Mouse guarantee.

The fine print in the Mighty Mouse guarantee. This guarantee is only good if you use an independent contractor which Microsoft credentials and full networking installation experience with a fluke meter that cost at least $10,000. Not the 15 yo down the street that is the best at Minecraft.
