does anyone know what is the correct format for using the search tool
<>
for example, if I want to find all persons of age <25 and > 18 how do I formate those numbers in the search box criteria? I can do them separately but would like to be able to use that damn
<>
also if I want to find all (PERSONS< VISIT< THINGS ) of a category, can I enter a wild card so all come up ?
I tried the % but no luck
is there a place where I can find instructions for this?
thanks, Lynn

On the first:
I do not know how to make <> work. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the Common Searches tab to the left of Meaningful Use Searches in green. It allows the two statements to be done very quickly. I know this wasn't the answer you were looking for.

Hi Lynn,
The "<>" symbol is the numerical equivalent of "Not Like". It is used to search for everything except the exact value you put into the "value field". Think of it as the opposite of "=". For example, if I was searching for patients in my database that are outside my state (in my case, RI) I would use the following criteria"
Demographics - State - <> - RI
This will return all patients that are NOT in Rhode Island.
If you are searching for patients between an age range, you would have to do 2 separate lines. For example, for your search that you gave the example for, the criteria would look like:
Demographics - Age - > - 18 Demographics - Age - < - 25
As far as the wildcard goes, you can enter "%" as a wildcard, but usually you have to click the "Show all query results" option to get the field to show the proper data. Other tricks that do work for certain fields is using "<>" or "Not Like"and then leaving value blank. That will return any result where that field is not blank. For example:
Demographics - City - <>- *leave value blank*
This will return all results for any city, as long as the city field is not blank.

great - just what I need to I think to pull most anything so the <> is just a way to get all values, any values - perfect I will try it .
is there a user guide to using the search posted somewhere?
and Mark do you know if there is a way to pull the encounter date and list it in the excel output if I search within a date range ex all patients seen within the last year and then the date of their visit?
thanks
trying to pull lists of patients to give to vendor for cahps survey for the borg collective. annoying trying to make the excel spit out

Borg collective is the RI CMS multipayer ( all state insurances) demonstration project , which finally accepted our micropractice collective in the 3rd year of our application (supplication) to their group. They pay between $5.50 per member per month - to $7.50 depending on your quality milestones Which include pulling patient lists for CAHPS surveys, and proclaiming loudly about what great quality is provided by the members of the collective, and getting NCQA PCMH certification (already done - thank god I will never revisit that ordeal)and a number of other hoops to jump through. They were formerly known as CSI-RI (which aptly could have stood for Crime Scene Investigation, which seems correct, considering where and how money is flowing in the collective) but now are called CTC-RI ( care transformation collective ) They are a team based care model which is antithetical to the micropractice model so there is an interesting mingling of ideas going on - hopefully productive for all. I am slightly optimistic that resistance is not futile and would like to see change in how practice quality is measured and am pushing for that. We will see! But if I start talking in a monotone, walking like a zombie and acting like a cog - well you know - they got me :-)

Well, I'm not Mark, but there is a summary video here: http://amazingcharts.com/support/video-tutorials/?tx_acvideos_videogallery%5Bvideo%5D=85&cHash=fc43bd41b93bd06b5c667a8d3b382e0d I'm not quite sure what you are asking. You can certainly set a date range, export to excel and then use any and all excel tools to modify the data.

thanks wendell
it is disgustingly tricky, devil in details stuff for example I need to pull all the patients that have been seen within the past year so I set the parameters, all unique seen within the past year but then for those 600 patients, there is no way to get the program to print out the DATE that the patient was seen, just that they fall within the category of visits within a year I think I will need a back end SQL database code to get in extract that data I do not want to go in and patient by patient look up and then enter the date of the last visit .
hoping either Mark will know or let me know where to get database manipulation back end access.

Lynn, look at the search video I referenced. It showed how to show all the visits a particular patient had in the time frame. I believe it was by clicking the show all query results, but I only skimmed it to make sure that it was relevant.

I imagine if you knew how to do queries in SQL Server itself, it would be much easier.

Once the query runs, click "Show all Query Results" to get the date of service to appear.

oh that's great - just what I needed thanks wendell and Mark Indy - I don't quite need you yet then !
saw the whole video and it was helpful
I think I can remove the duplicate names by using an excel tool ( CAHPS survey vendor wants them only once) or at worst, by hand :-(
thanks you guys!!!
