Okay so I have a med student who is going to be with me for a month. He has a macbook air or whatever (can you tell how proficient i am with these?).
So he logged into our wifi system and he can't see the ESMISERVER which is my server and i need him to be able to see that to use AC.
Those mac users out there, how are you making this work?
Please go slow...i know NOTHING!

First, AC doesn't work directly on AC. But, he should be able to use it if it is open on the server.
I personally would never let someone log into my office network. Granted Apple doesn't have many viruses due to its low market share, but still.
If he can't even see your server, then it is a network issue. Is the server giving out DHCP addresses. Otherwise, my guess is your computers are on a subnet like:
192.168.16.x 255.255.255.0 192.168.16.1
Which would mean he would need to have his NIC set to that subnet.
Why does he need to have his own computer? Why is he not logging into the computers in your exam rooms. Give him his own account or let him use your password. You can always change your password for the month.

Agree 100% with Bert and with Todd (in the shout box). There are many serious security issues with a medical student logging in with his own laptop. Provide a machine for him.

i don't do this for most of my students and such, but the issue is that i don't have enough computers around...the other computers see the server...he can only see my flexhome drive which is a back up drive.

He could take home a copy of your entire database and you would be none the wiser.

I would have him use RDP with just a local machine. That way his access is restricted to the office and he doesn't have an actual copy of the data.

It's really easy with Parallels to just run Windows on the Mac. However, I agree with just providing him with a laptop. You may want to get one for a backup anyway, an inexpensive Dell or the like.
