Anyone having to change Concerta to generic, e.g.

methlyphenidate 54 mg/24 hr oral tablet, extended-release

It WAS frustrating, because you couldn't just send the name-brand Concerta and let the pharmacy fill the generic. You had to write for the generic.

We have it now so you can't bring up Concerta and all previous Concertas have been changed to the exact generic script so refills are screwed up.

If a patient takes a controlled-substance script to the pharmacy with Concerta on it, they won't fill it.

Probably different. Just keep writing for Concerta. Let me know if you get a hard time. For us, it was just they wouldn't fill it.

I also wonder if it is an NDC issue. Maybe there it defaults to the correct generic and here there are several. Who knows?

Not quite sure I understand. The state requires the Generic Name? Don't they have anything better to do?

Guess not. I don't understand it, but it has something to do with multiple generics.

I think the issue is this: The FDA pulled the 2 A-B rated generics because the delivery system was NOT the Oros like Concerta and they figured out they were inadequate. The only other generic (a pharmacist told me) is not A-B rated and therefore by law they cannot simply substitute a generic. So if you had someone on Concerta generic you now have to say methylphenidate ER 27mg.

Yeah that, lol. Thanks Shrinkrap. I am just starting this because of our refilling the Concertas by mistake and represcribing Concertas. We have been able to modify the database so all Concertas are changed to the correct wording. That way, no more mistakes are made.

If anyone is interested, please PM me.

In our office, we see a TON of ADHD. This is Maine, after all. So, if someone called for a refill, my staff would bring it up, print to the TSP (always fun), and I check and sign off. But, many would get by as Concerta. Now, there is not the issue.

Now, the question remains, "Why would a 'shrink' be prescribing an ADHD med, lol?"

That's a joke.

And, not a very good one at that. But, hey, it gets me closer to 10,000.

Bert, how did you modify the database to change Concerta to methylphenidate ER?
