Hi,
I'm getting Error 1920. Service Amazing Charts Auth Service (Amazing Charts Auth Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
This is while trying to install V7.1.1 on our backup server for testing purposes.
Is 7.1.1 the latest stable version?
Thanks in advance.

Dear Gianni, Last week, I installed AC 7.1.3, which you can still download from the AC client portal today: http://www.amazingcharts.net/download/AmazingChartsV7.1.3%20Build%20144.zipYou also need the database tuner: http://www.amazingcharts.net/download/DatabaseTunerV7.1.3%20Build%20144.zipEven if 7.1.3 doesn't fix your problem, you'll have the most recent 7.x version. But you may well have a non-AC problem, namely that you as a user really don't have the right to start the named service, either because you're not an administrator or a rights-option has been unchecked somewhere in Windows services.msc. The first step after getting 7.1.3 is to see if it installs when you right-click on the program file and run it as administrator. If that fails, look for the service that won't start through services.msc (or by going to control-panel, administrative-tools, services). This can be tricky if you're not sure what you're doing. Cheers, Carl Fogel

Thanks much. I'm logging in as the administrator, but i'll double check.
Is 7.1.3 a *stable* version and widely reported as such?

Dear Gianni,
The 7.1.3 version of AC is the latest version of 7.x.
It's what AC offers on its portal.
It's as stable as you're likely to get with 7.x.
AC is now devoting its efforts to 8.x, which requires you to call for an installation appointment.
There are no threads on the AC forum about your 1920 error, so your problem is probably specific to your Windows setup, rather than a problem absent from earlier 7.x or fixed in later 7.x.
In any case, stability becomes a problem only after installation.
Cheers,
Carl Fogel

I see, thank you.
Is 7.1.3 better than 7.1.1 to the point where the effort is worthwhile? Are there any killer features that are must have?
And when is version 8 due to arrive?

Dear Gianni,
The version numbers indicate only minor fixes betwe 7.1.1 and 7.1.3. You can see some details through the patient portal and in the thread mentioned below.
Since you're installing to test, you'll presumably be installing yet again, so your obvious choice is to download and use what AC is currently offering for 7.x with the latest fixes.
Right now, version 8 is available only by calling AC for an appointment.
In a recent version 8 thread, Indy says that he has clients testing it in sandboxes and hopes to comment on it soon:
http://amazingcharts.com/ub/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/63782/Searchpage/1/Main/7260/Words/version+8/Search/true/Re:_Version_8#Post63782
More comments should appear in that thread after the holidays from the users who have installed version 8.
Here's the pdf that AC sent me about version 8:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6lr4ezlw3nkllt3/8.0.2%20Release%20Notes%20%28External%29112414.pdf?dl=0
Here's part of the AC email about version 8 on 12-18-2014:
"I understand you are interested in upgrading to our latest version, version 8.0.2 is available for upgrade now. This new version includes new features such as a new spell checker and increased schedule functionality. Attached is a document that lists all the new enhancements and known issues with version 8.0. Please review this document and let us know if you would like to upgrade to version 8.0.2."
"If you would like to upgrade to version 8.0 please acknowledge that you have read the release notes and are aware of the known issues with this version."
"This upgrade could take up to 3 hours, depending on what current version of Amazing Charts you are currently running."
"During the time of your upgrade appointment, we ask that no one access Amazing Charts. Also, we ask that someone remains in the office until the upgrade is complete."
"Please keep in mind that these types of appointments fill up very quickly and by providing us with a list of different dates and times would assure you to get this appointment sooner. Our appointment times are Monday through Friday from 8 AM EST to 6 PM EST."
Cheers,
Carl Fogel

Thanks much. Maybe we'll see what the feedback is for version 8.
I'm a little leery about being a "pioneer". Upgrades in the past have not always gone smoothly.

I have been asked on several occasions to beta test for AC. I know several people who do, and I know one, in particular, who will be the first in line and put it on his production network. I would never do that given that it is a beta. It is a beta for a reason, AND, upgrades to new versions have a history of being buggy and, sometimes, unusable.
The problems with sandboxes is that no matter how much you try to test it, it just isn't the same as using it day in and day out. If you play in the sandbox for a week, you may find five bugs or issues, but having you and your staff working with the software will find many more (if they are present). And, therein lies the problem. About the only safe way is to wait and watch the board. Board Beta Testing is the only surefire way to make the leap.

Hi Bert, and agreed.
We're running 7.1.1 right now. I'm going to do fresh sandbox install of 7.1.3. Given that it's a fresh install, do i need to run the Database Tuner? Or is it just a matter of restoring the 7.1.1 backup, and AC figures it out and updates the data to 7.1.3?

I was referred back from a more recent post and voila..... Did you contact AC about the error? What version did you settle on? As I recall, there was not a lot of difference between 7.1.1 and 7.1.3, but I'm not sure. I have intermittently received this error from V6 on. Sometimes restores work fine, sometimes not. Initially, I thought it might be a database issue except going into management studio could extract the proper files. It's probably an encryption issue, but the files have been decrypted by that point. The first time I saw it, I was getting ready to change servers, talk about heart in the mouth! That got stalled a few days Why, you may ask am I restoring? I moved to a new server, I was checking backups, I was creating an alternate system that could be the "go-to" system if my main system failed. I was verifying that my backup processes were working properly. I was told that sometimes playing with the AC services can solve this problem, but it did not work this last week when I tested a backup. Fortunately, Tech support took the call during the snowstorm (from home I understand) and was able to fix it (Thanks Bill and Russell)
