Hello,
Does anyone else have problems with the program being amazingly slow? It seems to get hung up when processing certain things. For example- it pauses after I tab from the diastolic blood pressure reading to the pulse reading when I am entering them. When I click the meaningful use checklist button it will take 20 seconds to come up the first time, then the second time it is fine. There are numerous little incidences of this. We have plenty of RAM, apparently the program is only capable of using half the ram available because it is a 32 bit program and we are on a 64 bit operating system. I signed off all the items pending for sign off and that seemed to help initially, then the next day it was back to its normal slowness. Then miraculously, like weeks later- it was just fine. I thought maybe we were out of the woods. Then this Monday, it just went back to its old pattern of slowness. I re-purged all the sign offs, to no avail.
Can it really just be me that is suffering through this?

Dr. Val, Sorry to hear about your plight. There are many posts about this type of issue, with many suggestions. Unfortunately, there is not one single answer. I would suggest that you post again with the specifics of your AC version (any recent upgrades?), your OS, and your hardware, being specific about your server/clients and switches. I expect people will come to your assistance here, and they can do a better job when they have this info. Meanwhile, try searching the board here for old posts about slowing...
And one quick idea, based on your comment about pending items: look in your mailbox for deleted items. You may have accumulated thousands which can slow things down. If so, use the button to remove them all.

Try cleaning out your old orders. Click VIEW > ORDERS. See if you have a few thousand in there and start marking them COMPLETED.

Thanks for that tip AmazingDave. For those trying to do this one by one it can be a very time consuming affair. I found by accident that you can easily batch select all: select the first patient and then scroll to the bottom and press shift and click on the last patient. Then click completed and Update order. If you have thousands like I did it will take a long time so do it at night.
I wonder it these "ordered" orders really slow down AC though, because the orders are still there, just in a different category. Now they are "completed" but still show up in AC. Is there a way to purge them? Should they be?
Another point. I mentioned this before, but there is no way to check messages on "users" which are no longer working in your practice unless you reactivate them, reset their password, log in as them, and delete all their messages, which is another time consuming process. There should be a way for the administrator to forward all messages to / from "deactivated users." There might be important stuff in there.
One more thing: if you are like me, I run a bussy practice and have been using AC for 10+ years (lots of temp workers. Ma's dont last more than 2-3 years in my experience. Same with secretaries) I have accumulated over 100+ users which really bugs down the user account & security adminstrative tab. There should be a way to just see "active users" instead of having to scroll down to find the active users among a sea or red "inactive users"
I have thought about reusing these "inactive users" and just change the name to the new employee instead of making a new one. Any thoughts on this? Should I recycle my old employees user accounts? Only reason I have not is that you can't change the user name and they would have to log in using the former employee's username; I usually just use their first name. I could create an user account called medical assistant, secretary, biller, etc. Then just change their name if they leave.
I noticed a "user" called LOSTPROV, LOSTPROV. Is this an AC generated user? What is it for? I do not see the user in the log in AC's login window...
Just some rambling thoughts this lazy Sunday.
Happy holidays!

Thanks everyone, My version is 7.1.2 and we wont update till I do some CMS attestations. I purged the unsigned imported items and labs. I want to purge the orders sent, but cannot seem to find the right set of buttons. It's still slow. The last time it sped up, there were the same number of orders hanging around (it's not our normal method for sending orders yet, possibly because the MAs avoid using the program unless they have absolutely no choice.
Happy Holidays!

I had similar questions about users who are no longer with the practice and spoke with Amazing Charts tech support about this. Their reasoning as to why the program does not allow the administrator to delete the old users is for medical malpractice reasons. By keeping the users, it provides an accounting of what staff members dealt with the patient over time. This makes sense. I agree with the comments about unread messages being in their boxes and the hassles of trying to make sure that this does not happen.

What is your system like? Are you using a server with workstations? Are you accessing the program via a wireless connection or cable connection? These play a role in the speed of the program. I am sure that many of us are using a 64 bit operating system (I am running Windows 7 professional) so I do not think that is the problem.
