This is a good topic.
I just tried running some reports and found the following:
If I use a diagnosis search containing the word "diabetes" I get 117 patients
And if I add a medication search where Medication class = HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors I will then narrow my list to 76.
I don't see how to automatically get the list of those not on the statin, but if both lists are printed, one could fairly easily find the list of patients not on statins.
Similarly,
of my 117 diabetics, I then did a medication class search to include "Antiplatelet agent" and found 46 patients on antiplatelets. I could then compare lists again and find the patients not on antiplatelets.
A little cumbersome, it would be nice to have an operator on the med search saying "not including or does not equal" to get to the answer quicker, but this manual method is still a lot quicker than sorting through 117 paper charts one by one.
There may be a way to set up a Health Maintenance rule for this type of reporting too, but need to look at a more. Anyone use a health maintenance rule to help with these types of tracking reports?
