Hi All,
I was just curious, for those of you who are completely paperless, and perhaps also on the cloud, do you have a contingency plan in place for when there is a power outage/internet problem/computer problem?
We have been doing a lot of double/extra work to maintain both an electronic copy and paper copy of patient charts for the rare occasion that this happens. When it does, it really is nice to have a complete record of the chart on paper to refer to. However, it's probably not worth the extra work for such rare instances.
Would love to hear what others do in these circumstances if you are truly completely paperless.
Thanks,
Samantha

I have a laptop good for 3 hours on the battery and a Verizon myfi (pay as you go) box for internet access..I do have a printer that works on a battery backup...I rarely need to use it, but I fire the system up once a month to maintain sanity...

Samantha,
That's a lot of work having both paper & electronic records. Are you in an area that looses power a lot?

We have what amounts to a really big battery powered inverter system... It will run everyone for several hours.

We have a provider who simply refuses to use the EMR. Can't let her go; she's my wife. We have worked out a system for duplicate electronic and paper -- somewhat cumbersome, but under the circumstances the best it can be. Sometimes it really is quite nice to use the paper chart -- all electronic has its shortcomings.
