Recommend revising the Amazing Charts software so that the smoking status, once entered, continues to update either years smoking or years quit, as long as the status remains unchanged. For example, I entered smoking status one pack per day for 60 years on a patient 2 years ago. If the patient continues to smoke, the status should annually up-to-date, and should now read "one pack per day for 62 years". Likewise, the patient stopped smoking 40 years ago, 2 years later the entry should reflect "stopped smoking 42 years ago".

This is what computers are best for rather than relying on human memory to update ad hoc. Lazy and/or quick programming to meet a standard rather than real utility.
