I just started online scheduling with Updox. I was thinking about having an iPad in the lobby they could use for accessing the portal and registering online, which goes into AC automatically. There would still be some other papers to sign, however.

Just FYI--There are still alot of issues with the Phreesia/AC integration and it is still not "automatic and seamless" as it is promoted. The promises to fix these issues after years remain just that--promises.

I totally agree with Gale. We got Phreesia last year, they promised transfer of patient information to appropriate fields. What they didn't mention is that it is only for demographics. It was a total waste of time as we still had to go back and type in other data that got imported to the imported folder. Also, the older patients complained a lot. When we realized this and tried to get out of it, they refused to let us out. We upgraded to 6.5 and there was no integration with AC. They have continued to charge us a monthly fee of $60 even though we are not using it. They said it is part of the contract. Be careful when you sign up for some of these things!

I mentioned Phreesia and said nothing more, because I tried them about 3 years ago. It was clunky, took a long time to do input and nothing much was in the chart. Waste of time.

They were supposed to have improved in the interim, but from what I am reading here, it the same old song.

Too bad, the theory is good and perhaps it could have been useful. I expected that in 3 years they might have improved quite a bit.

We use Phreesia only for the insurance verification we have what is called the dashboard only. For check in I do not think it is worth it since the info is only transmitted to PDF which then needs to be retyped by staff. Please tell me more about updox online scheduling boondoc? The idea of ipad in office is exactly what I was looking for. Trying to get away from sign in sheet and instead have a tablet in office that accepts a swipe for copay.

I wanted to get the patients to work with and iPad as well, as my most expensive resource (human labor) is exhausted as it is. It appears to me more and more that the complexity of data processing in an average primary care office becomes too much to not have the computers do more work than just to sit on the desk and waiting for us to feed data into them. At the same token it appears that AC is limited in it's capability to interconnect successfully with other software products and I am starting to wonder if it would help the providers and everyone else in the practice if we switched to a more comprehensive software suite that has it all wrapped up in one seamless package.

Any suggestions or experiences what to do or not to do?

I am not aware of any medical software program that can interact directly with the patient yet, and I think that's a long way off. Course, I don't get around much, so maybe someone will enlighten me. The reason that our employees need to enter the data is that it is garbage in, garbage out.

I think the best way to save human labor is to get computers to interact with other computers, so my alternatives are:

Computers can call to confirm patient appointments.
Computers can check eligibility for every patient on the schedule.
Computers can send billing information to the clearinghouse.
Computers can post payments to your PM software.
Computers can send and receive lab and test reports.
Your receptionist can put every non-urgent phone call to voice mail.
Using a portal will save you time spent on the phone.
Insurance companies can send your check directly to your bank.

I'm sure there are more similar ideas.

It seems that the profit in medicine tide is going out, so payroll is a big deal. Medicine always needed more than adequate staffing to handle the stressful times and prevent patients from falling through the cracks, but now that is too expensive.

Ringadoc can put non urgent messages after-hours messages to voicemail for the receptionist in the morning--another computer job.
