Yeah. Not sure how I feel about this. Can CMS be blamed? I don't think so. Congress really screwed them on this one. No doubt, a lot of people spent a lot of time preparing for the switch in 10/2014; though some might say "no harm done, the work's done and we can just re-open it when the time to actually switch comes." But this is not the case. There is a cost to closing down projects and re-opening them at a later date -the resources it takes to reacquaint oneself with the coming change.
I think the benefits of ICD-10 use will outweigh the negatives of its implementation. Big data is promising. Additionally, in my experience something good happens when we are forced to explicitly state the details of our observations (e.g. increased specificity requirements inherent to icd-10).
Finally, in the backdrop to everything, I feel disappointed. Delays, delays, delays. I haven't been on this earth too long, but it seems like we live in an age of delays, in which being late is the norm.
