Over the past month or so, many users have stated they have not been able to post. In the forum and in the PMs. Some in the Shout Box. Some have resorted to trying to make a new user, and it didn't work. I will try to give you some of the reasons, and a few ways to possibly help.
First and foremost, like any software, upgrade the version. It is ironic, because our php version is too high. Rolling back would fix it. But, rolling back is never a good idea. Our UBB version is too low. We are 7.5.7, when we need to be 7.5.8. It was buggy at first, but is now rock solid. I will likely work on this over the next week.
Some of the things that can cause it are the following:
1. Copying and pasting into a post. Word and Emails are notorious. Texts are better. Many times, there is no issue. When you find cutting and pasting not working, then typing it directly in usually works. I typed a six paragraph email in the other day and was scared to death when I hit submit. 2. Long posts. This goes right along with the copying and pasting, because why do we copy and paste. 3. Some people just have a more difficult time than others. 4. Waiting a period of time. 5. Posting a small part of your post, then posting the rest after or contuing in that fashion.
Just some thoughts.

I did a few tests and then deleted them all. The best success I had was indeed hand typing or using speech recognition vs. cutting and pasting. The length of the post did not matter nor did the amount of time I waited before hitting the post link. Oddly enough cutting and pasting will not work no matter where the information is cut from (Word, Notepad, Various websites, etc.). I even tried using a macro to paste a link into the body of one post but that failed as well. All of the built in functionality of the 'post bar' works fine though such as enter a media tag, create a link to a webpage, smilies etc.

That's good to know. I need feedback. I think the length of the cut and paste (when it works) can cause issues. I never knew so many people copied and pasted.
PLEASE EVERYONE: If you have an issue, say either "I couldn't cut and paste into ACUB vs I couldn't post into user board."
Thanks.

Yes, Bert, when I was trying to PM Leslie and could not do it, it was a cut and paste of some information.

Now, it is starting to make a bit more sense. I'll have to put that in my signature.

When I was trying to post a while back it seems to be at least at part about punctuation and non-printing formatting characters. In some cases even a few words more would cause the post to fail.
It eventually took 15-20 attempts to complete one post. Right now copying and pasting is a sure way to end up with a blank post.

I had a longish post I started in Word so I could come back to it and edit it, and nothing I could do made it work. I saved as text, pasted to notepad, all was blank. Previously I have also encountered problems just typing into both the PM section and the forum, although the latter seems to be mostly OK.

This is where you ask your receptionist to type it directly into the board.

I am using Dragon Medical Practice Edition 2 and I have dictating into the Dragon dictation box and then giving the command "transfer text" after placing the cursor in the user board field. I do not have any problems doing it this way. I am doing this right now.

The new forum software that was installed last month. That is compatible with the new server software. If you look in the footer you will see Powered by UBB.threads? PHP Forum Software 7.5.8
It used to say: Powered by UBB.threads? PHP Forum Software 7.5.7

Mel,
Amazing Charts and I hired a UBB consultant to work with the user board that required special skills. The big thing that board needed with an upgrade from 7.5.7 to 7.5.8 (see Software version at very bottom). The upgrade, while fixing many security patches and bugs, took care of the main issue with not being able to cut and paste to a post or sometimes not being able to post at all.
Ruben works with other UBB boards and has his own. He has many, many years experience working with UBB boards.
Yeah, I guess he is just a buddy.
