Hi everyone. We don't accept insurance, but we need to keep the insurance information up to date in our system because once PM rolls around we would like to submit claims on the patient's behalf. We also need to keep record of insurance info for labwork and such.
Here's the problem: Amazing Charts is now asking for the "Payor ID" on insurance plans. I have no idea what this is? Where to find it? I try to search google but many times I can't find what I'm looking for, or the claims address doesn't match up.
Can anyone explain where I might get this information???
I would also assume that if we don't have the Payor ID correct, or the correct claims address that would all get messed up?
Thanks!
~ Samantha

The payer ID is the number used for electronic filing for claims. Most insurance companies list this information on the back of the card near the filing address (though it can be anywhere). It's also called a payer number or an EDI number and is usually 5 digits. In AC, if you know this number, you can search by it and it will find all the carriers under that number (for those plans that have different names) and it kind of validates the migration of that particular insurance. You can, however, add an insurance without this. Hope that helps. Amber

Thanks for your reply. I am finding that most insurance cards do not have this number anywhere on the card which has left me to search on Google, but this does not always produce the information I'm looking for.

Samantha,
If you don't accept insurance right now, I wouldn't worry about the payer id. It's only needed for electronic claims. When you do get eclaims in the future, the payer id will probably only matter at the clearinghouse level, and they will help you get all the info anyway.
The payer id in my billing program doesn't matter. It's the name of the insurance that matches what the clearninghouse has on record and the payer id is assigned there.

Are you sure? Most cards that I see here have it on there. But maybe you have smaller carriers...we are dominated by the big 3 (or 4).
If you have contracted with a clearinghouse, you can also look up the carrier on the clearinghouse website and get the number. Well at least you can with OfficeAlly.
