Hello, I am posting this for help with Red Hook Family Practice.

There are two sites, RH (Red Hook) and YH (Yacht Haven).

We have a terminal server dedicated to remote connections running Amazing Charts.

When people are connected to the server they often run other programs besides Amazing Charts.

Problem: Folks are getting kicked off of the remote desktop connection. When they reconnect back in they get all of the other programs still running but not Amazing Charts.

The kicking out of the remote desktop sessions has to be something to do with the internet or the terminal services settings.

My question though is why does Amazing Charts stop working and the other programs are still running? Has anyone else experienced similar issues and what did you do to fix it?

any help would be appreciated!

How much time passes between being kicked off and reconnecting? One issue I run into and is a frustration with AC is that when it locks it doesn't show as a running app on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and if you hit the desktop button on far right corner then you loose the password screen and you basically have to restart AC and it will tell you it is already started and then the password dialog box shows backup. So I don't know if that is the issue you run into. Make sure you also have your terminal server limited to only one session per user so that the user always connects back to the same session.

Thanks! My terminal server is set to only one session per user. When the user reconnects to the server it brings back the previous session but AC is the only program not running. Their connections to other servers, browser windows, etc. are all still running. In the server application log I am getting a bunch of messages: The pulse task does not appear to be running for AmazingChartsService. I don't know if that is relevant. I have sent a message to AC regarding that.

I am shadowing a user with LogMeIn on her computer and her session with terminal server manager on the server. I am looking at the ISP activity monitors. I am watching the performance and users logged into the AC server. When a user reports they have been 'kicked off' of their terminal server session I look at the logs. Unfortunately only James connecting from the states was kicked off. I am in Florida and have two remote desktop session open to the server. One is new today and the other has been connected since last Thursday without a hiccup.

James believes it is a firewall related issue and he may be right. However I have been connected to the server (not running AC) since Thursday.

Towards that end, are you watching network traffic, and is the firewall throttling traffic or is that your ISP?

Is there a connection or traffic cap for your firewall or the remote edge device?

Both sites have Innovative T1 links. There is no throttling. All regular internet traffic at the RH site uses the BBVI link. It doesn't have a throttle either. Traffic often goes up to 3.2 mb/sec. There isn't any traffic caps.

The only traffic across the T1's are remote desktop connections. There are 6 of them during the day, not counting mine. The servers are all at RH.

I have had a remote desktop connection from my house running since last Thursday. I have some ping tests going on that link and a web page connection. It hasn't dropped. I have a second one running to mirror a user at YH.

There is a VPN tunnel that runs over the BBVI links between the two sites. It is only used for printing to the LAN printer from EHS and AC.

Is it just not visible or has the process actually ended? Did you check the Task Manager to see if AmazingCharts.exe was running?

jasman,

Keep in mind that programs have to be written to work on TS. Now this goes without saying when you are talking about Word, etc., but I could see where AC would not be. In that instance you may get situations where it doesn't work at all, but more likely issues with quirkiness.

I'm pretty sure AC works on a TS since that's how AC in the cloud works. I also have several sites running in that fashion too. What happens quite a bit is that the server isn't put into installation mode before installing AC. By default the terminal server is set to execution mode and if you install a program in that mode, you see weird stuff sometimes.

I uninstalled AC from the terminal server and reinstalled it with TS in installation mode. I haven't seen any issues since. I hope this continues! Thanks for your bit of wisdom!

I seem to remember that now. But, of course, Sandeep has a better memory. smile
