The short answer is that you are looking for this ==> http://www.nuance.com/products/dragon-medical-practice-edition/index.htmBoth Tom Hamilton and we are authorized to provide that technology - we focus more on assisting AC users with implementation Dragon along with other practice improvements.

Only Dragon Medical Practice Edition (2 being the latest version) will allow direct dictation into the latest version of Amazing Charts or any other version of Amazing Charts for that matter. Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium, Professional, and Legal have all been crippled by Nuance. The NaturallySpeaking Home edition is no more than a speech recognition sampler and should be used by no one.
The computer you install DMPE 2 on as well as the microphone/digital recorder you use and your dictation style will impact your success with the software.

That being said, as the above is good information, I would mention the following in case you are looking at less expensive options. I have found the Apple speech recognition software to be excellent in recent years. If you are on a Mac, it is free and you can dictate a paragraph at a time in quite a natural tone, right into AC.

Tom,
I did get DMPE2 and knowbrainer. I only use DMPE2 however, because I tried using Knowbrainer but cannot find any usefulness. I had things in mind when I purchased the software, but cannot find anything to help me with VB. I even bought Larry Allen's book, but feel that there is no beginner's level site to get me started with scripting. I also have checked the forum from the knowbrainer site but information is too advanced and not applicable to what I want voice commands to do when using AC and DMPE2. Right now I am using DMPE2 and AC and have done some simple commands to create text(with the Dragon command browser and not KB). The video on youtube of the physician using KB to generate a note seems to be more like what I was thinking I wanted to do with KB, DMPE2 and AC. Maybe you may suggest some site that would be more helpful?

If you look at the link to download scripts, in Larry Allen's book on scripting, you may be able to find some command scripts, which you can use. But even without knowing scripting, creating commands is not that difficult. There are a lot of good YouTube videos which teach you how to create commands, templates etc.

@Tom Hamilton -are you saying that Nuance has made it so that earlier versions of Dragon won't work with AC upgrades? We have medical 10 with an upgrade along the way, and it's useless. The doc has to type in everything and is getting further behind all the time. We are a little scared to spend $1,600 on 2nd Edition. Anyone? Her desktop computer is brand new and very fast -but still problems.

Madilu, I know of no conflict between AC and Dragon Medical. We have many AC users. Dragon Medical (Version 10) mixed with a new computer (Windows 7 or 8) is a different story. Dragon Medical 10 is not Windows 7 or 8 compliant, 10.1 is sort of Windows 7 compliant and will not function on a Windows 8 computer. 1,599.99 is the cost of a FULL copy. As long as you have a version 10 or 11 copy you are eligible to upgrade http://www.knowbrainer.com/NewStore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=467&idcategory=71 at a cost of 599.99. I hope this helps. If you would like further assistance you can send an E-mail to the address in my signature tag or call 615-884-4558.

The price for Dragon Medical is too high considering the prices of their other products including for atty's.
There is alternative if use tablet with windows 8.0 and touch screen. Can write in space and insert in appropriate fields. Can therefore write note as doing H&P. I tried it and had no problem transliterating my handwriting into type. I write faster than I type and it is way less expensive in a time of decreasing reimbursements than what Dragon seems to believe its worth.

It worked okay on Windows 7 for a long time. Doc is convinced the CD she has is corrupted. Who knows. We have the 10 and 11 discs. Afraid to buy just the 2nd Ed "upgrade" if there are still elements of the old version hanging around upsetting the system. Otherwise, the versions we have were not purchased from your company, so how can you extend an upgrade?

Madilu,
I'm saying I know of no specific conflict between AC and Dragon Medical. The conflict I was talking about was with Dragon Medical 10 and Windows 7 and Windows 8. This problem would also impact AC. Is this a Windows 8 computer? What are the computer specs? The current problems are with Dragon 11 and not 10 then I presume.

Madilu,
It doesn't matter who you purchased your original software from. You are free to upgrade from any company you choose.

Madilu,
Possible problems for poor Dragon recognition include a broken/breaking wire in the microphone, input level set too low (start> Control Panel> Hardware and sound> manage audio devices> recording. Double click on your microphone to set the level). If you are using a laptop in addition to a headset, disable the laptop microphone if it has one. Positioning the microphone is critical for good recognition accuracy.
If you're not using a USB microphone, you may have a problem with your sound card. A decent USB microphone can make a huge difference in recognition accuracy. I've been very happy with my Andrea NC-181VM USB, about $45 on Amazon. I use it with Dragon Medical Practice Edition version 1 with really good accuracy.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

Dragon Medical Edition2 (the most recent version) has just been upgraded to version 2.1. The upgrade is free if you have version 2 installed. The install was a little glitchy; had to use Task Manager to "kill" the Dragon Quickstart program running in the System Tray & restart before the update would install. But all good now. Version 2.1 seems to have improved the "lag" in the first recognition attempt in AC when opening a chart.

We have upgraded to V6.6.4 with the new letter writer and have noticed that Dragon (I think we have Medical 10) continues to work well in all of AC EXCEPT the letter writer...there immediately pops up a "com" error.
Anyone else having this problem? Any fixes?
Thanks, Dean

DaveB,
In regards to the cloud, it is my understanding that Dragon cannot recognize fields that are not on the computer in which it is installed. I believe that this holds true whether you are on the cloud or using a remote program to dictate with DNS on your main computer, from another computer. This has been discussed on the Know Brainer user boards. Tom Hamilton or Indy should be able to help clarify this. When I remote into my office computer at home and dictate, I use the dictation box to dictate the text and then transfer it to the field where it belongs. Otherwise, Dragon will not know when to capitalize words or perform spelling checks, etc.

John,
I am not sure if I have updated my Dragon NaturallySpeaking medical practice addition 2 or not. I went to the Help tab for Dragon, on my version and checked for updates. It stated that there were none available. I clicked the about button and did not see the exact version I have either. I may have updated and forgot about it. How did you find out about an update? How do you determine the exact version you have?

DoctorMel,
You need to click on the Dragon Help menu and then click About Dragon. This will produce a splash screen that will say Dragon Medical Ver. 2. Note that it will always save Ver. 2.0 even if you have the latest but about 1 inch below the Ver. 2, you should see English and it will say Ver. 12.5 1.35 0.006 if you have the latest version.

Thank you Tom.
Can you answer the question regarding use of Dragon on the cloud? In my past conversations with Lunis Orcutt, he had indicated the problem with Dragon not recognizing the field if it is not on the local computer, and that has been my experience. However, this has not been adequately addressed on this user board, from what I remember. Along the same lines, with my DMPE2, I still cannot dictate into the UPDOX windows properly, when I am editing a document. Any advice?

All of that is true:
Dragon Medical 2 does not work well in UpDox and the cloud based applications and browser based applications. They have a special enterprise version for Citrix based EMR's but I do not think that version is available to non-enterprise users.

We use Dragon Pro and dictate into a Word doc and then cut and paste into AC. Works well. We refuse to be held hostage by Dragon just because we are MD's.

You don't need to cut and paste. By default, in v12 Dragon opens the Dictation Box if it doesn't recognize the window (unless the window is Amazing Charts, Amazing Charts User Board or Updox, in which case it simply shuts down, because it won't work with a "medical" program.)
I do most of my dictation from home (can't stand to hang around the office after hours) into Remote Desktop window, which is unrecognized, therefore opens the Dictation Box. When finished with the dictation, just transfer ("click transfer") it to the RDP window.
Works for me.
