I received an email from AC recently describing 9 reasons to upgrade to V6.6. I have not seen one positive post on this forum about the newest versions. Has anyone had a positive experience with V6.6? So far I have only read about new problems created by the latest versions. I am still using V6.3, which works fine.

Ditto
I got the same email
I am afraid to rock the boat.
It has been rocky enough already.

I agree.

We saw the problems and will hold off on the upgrade.

6.6.2 drug interactions sloppy. Social history bug squashed. Otherwise a sideways move from 6.3.3

6.6.1 resulted in catatrpohic collapse of AC when a technician went in to repair a fairly minor problem. AC shut down when I entered a co-pay (sometimes only).
Repair resulted in complete failure for 23 1/2 hours.
Solution was upgrade to 6.6.2. Working fine after one week.

Some of it depends on how you use AC, some of it depends on how ready you are to upgrade software/hardware, the last part is what specific functionality you need/want.

We have had one client who had a catastrophic failure with the upgrade, and we did a hard roll-back to 6.3.3. At the same time AC could not provide the Friday backup on the following Monday. They have sense used a forensic instance to demonstrate problems to AC with billing data after the upgrade. They also found the newer version slower.

We have another client that is running 6.5.x without using the billing, and they are alright, but don't want to do any upgrades until we give the all-clear.

For most practices, they are better to hold off, and ensure that they are storing their own backups.

Indy,

Is storing the AC generated backup sufficient (we use a second hard drive in the computer, and an external hard drive for AC backup locations) or should this be a third party offsite backup?

I realize that this has been discussed extensively in the past

http://amazingcharts.com/ub/ubbthreads.php/topics/58110/2

but what is your favored offsite backup?

Thanks.

We work with whatever the client wants, so we have seen all kinds. Since many of these solutions are priced at a commodity level, I would focus on getting a plan that covers the following:
<1>Know that *All* your data is covered. AC enc files, ImportedItems, Dragon profile, practice templates, Quickbooks backups, the AC Data file(images), etc
<2>The mix of near-line (in office/on-network) and remote that gives you multiple stores and hte level of comfort/paranoia that suits you
<3>Test your backups regularly - some folks take a backup home and restore to test it, some folks have us off-site a selection of their backups (e.g. monthly) which we can restore quickly for you to remote to and satisfy yourself of your backups.

One of the things to keep in mind is that the backup of the AC DB, and the imported items should be handled differently - we have clients with over 100GIGs of II, you don't want to move that much every time you backup, even if you could, which most practice connections can't burst high enough to do.

However .... for another case of IronCity - delivery TBD, I could be induced to help out my friends near the Blue Ridge.

Indy,
could you please clarify at what point II needs to be backed up separately? During the AC backup, it mentions that II are being backed up so my assumption was that the .enc file contained the II. But I realize that I dont have a big file only about 1.4 GB . When the II gets bigger maybe this will be a problem?
thanks
bala

I upgraded to v6.6 on the cloud. Working well. New feature I like is when spell checking my note the word in question highlights in its window- no matter where it is located. Older version only seemed to show it if it was in the top few lines- did not scroll down.

I am holding at 6.3.3 for now. I heard there is (at least one way) sync with our state vaccine tracking site. If it was 2 way, that would be really nice. I too hate to rock the boat, as this version seems rather stable. The known bugs persist, the work around methods are still in place. AC has not responded to any of my emails about them. I really don't know if they read bug reports or this board.
