I want to start out by saying I'm an IT consultant and have little to no understanding of health care procedures. I have a client that was importing scanned images of lab results into AC. He had created a doctor that did not exits and imported everything using that doctors account. At issue is he does not want to see normal lab results. So he wants his nurses to sort them out and only put the "bad" results in his inbox. Fast forward to the lab interface. I got it up and running and it works great (easiest EHR lab interface EVER.) However when it is imported it goes into all doctors inbox. Is there a way to force it to go to the doctor that was created for sorting those out and not all doctors inbox when imported? I hope this makes sense.

Hi George,

So if I understand you correctly. You want all ordered labs to go to the "nurse" (through the interface) to sort through the normals and then this person would forward any abnormals to the doctor?

Hi Marty,

Yes that is what the doctor would like.

George,

Unfortunately having the interface doesn't allow for what you would like it to do. Only work around would be for the nurse to log in using the doctors name/password and only leave abnormals in the inbox (but I wouldn't recommend that).

George,
I may see this a little differently...
First, I am a little hesitant to say this, but since you started by stating you "have little to no understanding of health care procedures"... I am not sure how others feel about the liability and quality of care issues raised by your provider's approach. I think that most people would want to sign off on all labs, including the normals. So just recognize that there is some risk associated with what you propose. Do you really want a nurse "signing-off" on incoming reports? How has this been documented up until now?
I may be wrong and others may express a differing opinion.

I would speak to the lab that set up your interface. It has been a while since we set up a lab interface, but I think you have some leeway in terms of whom is notified of an incoming lab. The lab may be able to direct them all to one different provider (e.g. nurse) who then splits them up. Realize that unless the nurse is given "provider status" in AC, these results will appear in the chart in red, indicating that they have not been signed off.

I agree with Jon. Tempting as it is to have assistants do seemingly menial tasks, I am unwilling to risk my patient's well being or my practice on the judgment of a medical assistant.

Thanks everyone for the help. As a patient it would concern me that my doctor was not really monitoring my progress. Anyway not my call and no skin off my nose as the saying goes. Thanks again but I think I will just tell him it can't be done and hope he does not read this. LOL
