I learned today from product support that in order to view photos taken during an exam (and uploaded to Most Recent Encounter), I have to use the drop-down menu under the date on the Most Recent Encounter [that's in the upper left of the chart page], and choose the date that the pictures were taken. This is the same method, they explained, that would be needed to read notes in the 'confidential' section.

Tip: after learning this, I now put a code letter in the Chief Complaint section when there is an entry to the confidential section or a photo. For example, I write in Chief Complaint: "skin infection p" or "assaulted c," indicating that this is a date on which I had entered information or a note in the Confidential section. The drop-down menu would say: '10/17/06 assaulted c.'

When I look up Past Encounters, I might see several visits for the skin infection but have never known which one had the pictures. Now, I can easily spot the visits which had the photos, or which had the confidential information I needed to review.

I had been redundantly saving photos to Imported Items so I could get to them from any Most Recent Encounter.

By the way, I think this is yet another good example of why being able to open more than 1 chart at a time is essential.

This is a great idea. In much earlier versions they showed up at the bottom of the encounter in past encounters. It still does this when printing, but not for routine perusing.

I understand the reason for not allowing 2 charts at the same time (confusion in charting/charting on the wrong patient). I have charted on the wrong sibling when there were more than one in the office at a time. It is rare, but it has happened. It is a valid reason.

Having said that, I too would like to have the ability to open 2 charts at the same time. But I can appreciate the reason they have not made that available.

I was just wondering about the confidential section of the chart. Does this show up when the chart note is printed? What prevents the office staff from looking at confidential information?
