So my day started with complaints for general slowness. Okay, noted, maybe the network, I'll keep an eye on it.
It progressed to, "Hey, it's telling me I installed a new version and to tune the database." Well that's weird, but it's happened before. Solution, make sure AC is open and running on the server. So I remote into the server and sure enough, not open. I open it up and get a "you've installed a new version...tune database," message. So, I have to reboot the server.
Server rebooted, all is running well until, "Hey, I can't prescribe anything." Suddenly one of my providers that's been prescribing forever needs to be "validated". First her DEA number didn't match (it did, but I had to put it in again for whatever reason). Then finally I got her validated.
What's up AC? We're short staffed today and really could use to get some things done! Anyone else having these troubles?

Not sure if you got it worked out, but I always think the first thing to do is uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks Bert. With 10 workstations and 2 servers, uninstalling/reinstalling is always a last resort for me. So far, the hiccups seem to have subsided. Wish I knew what had precipitated the events however, or if I knew it was just a bug so I could expect it again. It's the surprise in the middle of the day I think that is the rub...but then again, aren't IT issues always a surprise?

Amber how did this turn out? It began for me on Friday evening with "new version" thing.

I am also having a lot of trouble with the letter writer. If I am sending out a batch of "did not keep appointments" by the second or third, the letter writer states it is out of memory and kicks me out! But if I exit AC and restart it the next letter writes fine, but if there are one or two more, (chart pulled from inbox, Addendum signed and letter set) then it kicks out again.

The letter writer is only a PITA, so I will not even bother trying to fix it again, (we tried and between AC support and my IT guys it was painful and expensive. I will stick with workarounds for now).

The 'you have a new version' message is new and scares me. What will I be in for on Monday?

I have been having the "new version" thing also, started about 3 days after upgrading to 6.5.5 So far, if I just restart the AC services on the server, it corrects the problem...for a few days at least, then the "new version" thing starts again. I believe it is an AC problem, not my server. Perhaps something with AC checking for updates, that's when it seems like it happens. Whenever AC checks for updates now, it tells me there is an updated version available (which there is not). Having flashbacks to updating from 5.9 to 5.10...it kept saying same thing back then because 9 is greater than 1 ... AC just looked at the first number past the decimal and ignored the zero on the end of the 5.10 so 5.9 looked "newer" to the program!! Maybe something similar here? SO far, I have reset the services 4 times and each time it corrects the issue temporarily...hate to have to do that forever though.

Also, should mention we did skip one update. I think the last version before 6.5.5 was 6.3.something, and I believe we were on 6.1.something, cant recall specific numbers but I know I did not use the update prior to 6.5. Since only a few of us seem to be having this issue, that might be important. You would think this would be a more widespread problem than it is unless there is something else going on other than just updating to the latest version. I'm running win server 2012 fyi, but that was the same for the last version also and it worked back then.

Thanks, if it becomes a bigger problem I will try that first. So far it is not every machine in the office. lol, of course not, nothing is that easy!

So far the fixes I used seem to be working. It seems to be important to have AC open and running on the server and to do a manual restart of those services on a regular basis. We do this every Monday morning now as part of our routine. We did not skip an upgrade, so I don't think that's a factor.

I don't know why AC would have to open on the server. It would simply connect to the database. And, you shouldn't have to do a manual restart on the services every morning. I am not sure how much support has helped, but I would tell them those two things and ask them to fix it.

My guess is you only have AC on one server. So reinstalling wouldn't be any harder than any other office whether you have 100 clients and four servers. You would only need to reinstall the AC on the server.
