I turned on the electronic renewal requests a few months ago. It is a mild hassle as sometimes scripts are not matched correctly, but overall it seems to save time.

I have a script today for which I do not want to do a refill. A window pops up that says you have a refill of 0. Do you want to change it to 1? The only options are Cancel, Yes to All, and Yes. Essentially it is refusing to allow me to send without an extra refill.

My understanding is that the 1 is for one fill, not really one plus one.

I think that is incorrect. When I look at the escript history, it does not say the number of pills or refills. However, on the patient's med history you can look up the script that was sent: the 1 refill is 1 refill. It appears it is not possible to say zero refills.

Not sure if you are both saying the same thing,
You can not put in 0 refills because that would be the same as denying the refill.
Putting in 1 refill means to give them 1 fill of indicated number of pills ie 30 for a month. Putting in 2 refills means to give them 1 fill now and one other fill ie 2 months.
Different from prescriptions where we put in a fill amount and number of refills, 30 plus one refill would equal 2 months worth which would equal 2 refills from the pharmacy.

Um, no again. You are saying the same thing as him. Putting in 1 gives them the script plus another refill. I checked the script history and this is the same as writing a script and saying 1 refill. I cannot authorize the script with 0 additional refills.

Chris - I think you should check with AC - I use 6.5.5 and if I refill something and give it one refill then go into that pt chart it and bring up the scrip it will show for instance "Hyzaar 50 mg - #30, 1 daily with 0 refills" which means it sent only one x 30 days to the pharmacy. If yours is showing the scrip with qty xx and 1 refill then it is not functioning the way it was intended.

I checked mine as well. If I authorize one refill, it shows up one fill. 30 days. Something must be different in yours system?

If we (Doc and I) use 1 refill, it only fills the one with no additional refills. So basically just this one time. You can also deny and write a new script, or deny all together. Or one refill and write a note in the note section stating that patient needs an apt for additional refills (that's my favorite! I wish we could template that). So far it's worked like a charm. Patients who need to come in for a yearly still get meds and enough time to make an apt without having to go to six different places to find that out. Also no more calls asking why their medication was denied. Or at least 90% less calls like that.

This really works well (something I am trying to achieve) if done at both the front end and back end. For instance, make a follow up the next year for an annual, provide enough meds for a full year, and then refill at the next annual. However, the patient no-shows the annual and then you get a request for the meds, you just deny and they know it is because they no-showed their appointment.

Hey anyone notice with last surescript update if you write for three of the same medication but in note section put different fill dates it defaults to filling in the last recorded information from the third script to all scripts.

Sorry that was confusing. In Utah we can write for adderal to be filled on three different dates. In the note section or refill section I usually put "fill date: " and usually put them in the que to print together. Now I have to print every one separate?

We've never used that. Illinois is really strict with many scheduled III and IV drugs. Sounds nice, though.

So you're saying it only fills the last date and ignores the other two?
