The exact error Amazing charts was unable to install SQL server 2012 In most cases, this can be fixed by restarting from computer and running this installer again. If this message persists, please contact tech support

This definitely seems to be an issue that is popping up everywhere. Seems the installer isn't removing SQL 2005 or the instance. Maybe go into Add/Remove Programs and remove the instance manually.
One thing that has always got me in the past in the fact that the AC folder is still existent on the C: drive if your install to the same driver after removing the previous version. Just a thought.

Looking online if find the when using windows server 2008SBS uses sql server express 2005, the forums recommend not upgrading to sql 2012 as some of the functionality of windows 2008 SBS will be lost. Is this true? Is anyone else using windows 2008 SBS and have found any issues whilst updating?

Microsoft recommends that the standard version of SQL Server 2012 be run on a separate box. Not sure how important that is. I am also not sure about Express. I believe many people are using it on 2008. If it truly wasn't compatible, then it would have been a good idea for AC to let us know far in advance of releasing it.

If this were known, the best option would have been to purchase Windows SBS 2008 PREMIUM rather than standard. This would have allowed you to use SBS 2008 as the domain controller and run Exchange Server 2007 and then implement the free Windows Server 2008 Standard as your add on server on which you could run SQL Server 2012 Standard or Express.
This is the method which Microsoft recommends. It is clearly recommended not to be on a domain server and, therefore, not on SBS 2008.
Having said that if your domain is in the neighborhood of five to twenty clients, you would likely have enough server to run both Exchange and SQL.

Problems getting 6.5.6 installed on my server. Getting stalled at SQL. Have uninstalled previous versions, reinstalled and restarted innumerable times.
Ideas, short of calling tech support on Monday? Was hopeful of actually being functional by then.
Thanks,

Jack,
What is the particular error?
I'm around part of this weekend if you need help. Probably something that can be sorted remotely, as that is faster than me driving down to Denver.

Thanks Indy,
I get the following error on the screen that says it can't connect:
"There was an error reaching your SQL Server databases on AMAZINGSERVER (port number 61067)
DETAILS: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." Thanks Jack

Jack,
I can't recommend Indy more. Hopefully, he will set you up. JamesNT also. I have a friend.
Not wanting to jump in front of Indy -- again, he is the man.
Just wanted to remind you that AC makes it very clear they should be involved.

AC wants to install it. (866) 382-5932
You can call now and leave a message. I have installed AC many times, but I probably wouldn't install SQL 2012 without their help. I guess there is a reason they highly recommend that. I guess if you install it yourself and have problems, the patients will be even more difficult.
Again, please if Indy feels confident he can help, go for it. I don't want to step on his toes.

Here is a quick suggestion you can try - run the AC Utilities and tell it to reset the database path. then restart AC and re-select the amazingcharts settings file. The utilities also has several diagnostics that you can run.

Hello all
First time poster. I am having the same issue with my upgrade from 6.3.3 to 6.5.7. I successfully installed amazing charts on my server running Windows Server 2008 Foundation edition. However, none of the clients can connect to the server. I get the sql time out error as well.
I have tried the following: 1. updated all the windows update 2. installed amazing charts on server. restart server. 3. ran database tuner 4. able to run amazing charts on server 5. install amazing charts on two different notebook clients running windows 7 pro. restart computer. 6. ran the amazing utilities on the notebook. I would get an error on the database optimazation saying the sql timed out. 7. ran the amazing utilities on the server, everything came up green checkmarks 8. unlinked the database, restart amazing charts, found the .xml file, and opened it. same error message. 9. I'm not sure what to do next. I'll have to call support in the morning but was hoping there was a simple solution.
