I know the title seems wierd considering the moron at JH that recorded his patients...disgusting! but i do need a good home camcorder as i have an 8 month old son and we tried using our dslr for video but want a camcorder..any suggestions or ones you would say avoid?

Lori (Lovely Bride) is real happy with a Canon HD for doing interviews and tripod work, if there aren't needs for cinematic controls.

Great results for size and price, but you have to manage lighting yourself - true for anything in the sub 10k market. Don't we all wish we could afford a Red.

For doing live work, spend the money to get an X-grip (Opteka X-GRIP), esp. for getting the camera down to kid level. I have come to love ours for live work that you don't want to use a larger rig.

You may find that you need to add some counter-weight to get smoother shots.

I'm a card carrying Canon dslr fan, but check out the Panasonic brand also. They make some great high end consumer stuff. Just look om amazon for the models with the plentiful great reviews.
