Sometimes if I disconnect my 3 in 1 table top mic from the computer (by removing it from the USB slot) and then re-insert it, Dragon will see this as a new input source and require me to re-train. How do I avoid this?

go ahead and retrain. it should only be a sound check, not a full retrain.

Jon,

the reason for this is because you are probably inserting the 3-in-1 into different USB ports. If you use the same USB port, it shouldn't be a problem as normally you would only get that message if you substituted a different USB port because Windows has to reload the drivers and thinks it's a new microphone.

I can't guarantee there won't be a problem with Windows recognizing it as a new microphone and labeling it -3, -4 and so on. This has nothing to do with the microphone because you would have the same problem with any USB soundcard that you plug into your computer. It is strictly an issue with your computer (assuming your using the same USB port)

Thanks for the (quick) help.
Actually, I was reinserting into the same USB port, which is why I thought this was odd.
I took the plunge, as nateb suggested, and did the sound check. It was a little disconcerting because I was afraid that I was somehow losing my profile, but after the sound check, I just started dictating and am clearly using my same user profile. I just needed someone to give me the courage to go ahead and do that. Thanks.

No problem, glad it was a simple fix. Running the sound check will not in any way ever harm your user profile. I would make a habit of backing up your user profile about once a month though so if were ever to become corrupted you won't lose the data.
