We use AC for my wife's new solo practice for uninsured patients but she also works in a large group practice (where she's been for years). If a pt from her new practice calls with an urgent issue on a day she's at the old practice, she'll often meet the pt in her new office after work. Is there a way (preferably easy) to schedule a one-off appt outside of a provider's regular schedule? The obvious solution is to set her schedule to 7 days/week for all the hours she might consent to ever see a pt. I'd like there to be a solution that generally doesn't let me absentmindedly schedule a pt when the dr is out and minimizes the visual clutter of sifting through rows of silly appt times that are available "just in case."

There may be a industry standard solution/work-around but I'm a complete newbie to the medical field (aside from helping my wife study in med school and fielding "you won't believe the pt I saw today" stories) and I'm largely in charge of providing all the company training for office management and technology issues. eek

But she just can't beat my wages. wink

I needed to change my schedule for one day in order to attend my son's band concert. I was frustrated until I figured out that I could go into the scheduler under Administration and change the hours for that one day by making the "Start date" and the Through date" the same date. That way it leaves the rest of the schedule unchanged. Perhaps that may help you.

A few ideas:
1. On days when you want to schedule an appointment, right click on the bar at the top, and enter a note (e.g. "John Smith 6PM". This will appear in yellow at the top of the day's schedule.

2. Use an extra slot at the end of the day. So if the last patient is seen at 4, in the 4:30 slot, put "Pt from old office" (there are a couple of ways to put that in the slot).

3. Create a new provider: "Dr. Afterwork". Use Admin options to set the possible hours patients will be scheduled. The appointments will show on a second schedule (the one for that provider)... but they only show up on days when an appointment is scheduled; otherwise, you won't even know the schedule is there.

Yep, we all knew JBS was a wizard, but he likes to keep that quiet, more of "Doctor by Day" superhero type.

No, more of a "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain" type.

What?!? No ruby slippers either?

Besides every superhero has a cover-story, and Doctors seem to be pretty common in that genre.

Thanks Jon!

I just opened up her whole schedule and highlight the days she's working at her old practice. The yellow top bar is attention grabbing enough that I think twice before booking a pt 30 miles from where she'll be that day. (c: Then, if her schedule changes (as it is prone to do), or she'll be making a house call for this practice, I don't have to go into admin and wait for it to add/subtract appointments prn.
