Hey Folks,
I was just messing around and Followed AC on Twitter when this other product came up with an interesting ad and as you will see I immediately thought of all of us, AC and Jon & Company. So here is my letter to Jon with no embarressing parts needed to be deleted.... I thought that perhaps if others thought it was trash or a good idea, feedback it would give us a better sense of whether or not to consider giving it any extra thought or effort.

My basic thing is I would rather as a Father and patient have a drive with my kids and my own data on it for me to watch and worry over than having our Charts out there becoming one singular lifetime, forever chart to be hacked and wacked at will, invaded by others locally or around the world who have ill intent and have access or hacked in access to those national database Health Servers around the country. Now we still have 90 plus percent of our important data at almost anytime anywhere and yet if lost only OUR family at worst was violated and with drive protections, hardware and software based passwords and keys, lock it up to be freed up only upon a visit back to the provider after like 5 or 6 tries(so no code breakers would be able to chew at it) the things would be pretty darn safe and now our PHI is not everybody else's even other no need to know providers and the like. Love to hear what others have to say about this....

Jon,

Hey There! Hope you and yours are doing well this holiday season, both of them :-) For a long time I have been speaking of the better, safer for Privacy, more secure because not shared on huge servers accessable to millions in the healthcare industry, personal Health Flash Cards or Drives. I know that our entire AC database takes up minor amounts of room when in its properly formated backed up state and most data even if in a few hundred pages of Docs over a lifetime would probably never fill up the average 4 to 8 gig drive as Word or PDF like docs, right?

So, imagine if along with the CCR like export already a well worked out part of AC, that you created a new part of CCR that we offices could sell, make a modest profit on, you could supply us with AC branded Flash Drives, and our patients could have their CCR or something similar updated at every visit (I gather this would meet some part of Meaningless Use TOO, yes?), make it as universal as possible so other providers at hospitals and other offices and clinics could do likewise, perhaps Pharmacies too, you get the picture by now right? And make it read only for the patients except for a folder or two that they could add their own notes, images, scans and other things that they felt were important as well.

Have it bring up a small, very weak if possible patient (again doctors, provider's stuff is Read Only, perhaps they could scribble notes or post its of a separate copy, highlight things to be discussed on next visit or reminder to themselves about their values and the like, only 2nd Copy in their patient free and open, saving original in original formate on doctors read only side) version of AC just enough for them to see and read it, click around nicely. And allow it to store and work with a large families worth of charts and data, so Mom or Dad (perhaps both is not a bad idea if they care to purchase a second one...) can have the entire family's basic charts and data on that long Cross Country trip, big hockey tourney up into Canada in case Junior gets hurt while playing, someone gets sick, and in general take to other appointments to be vueable, printable, perhaps even downloadable to other CCR compliant EMR's.

Perhaps we, you together somehow could charge a small modest fee for their support and updates ($10 bucks or so, enough to help off set your costs I would hope, but not enough to scare off most patients, maximize customer totals) annually after first purchase so that their modest program stays current with their provider's version of AC if need be. Perhaps it could take a minute or so on plug in to check for and take any update to stay in sync with their main AC provider's version or what have you?

Anyway, I just found this site after I followed AC on Twitter as one of the related tweets and immediately thought of why not put this idea together with our own EMR plateform, making it more friendly to OUR AC friends and users and allow you, us to better control and keep the data safe and organized the way we would like it to be, instead of allowing someone else to make the money on it all while making it not as friendly to all of us AC users...

Would love to know what you think about this.. And again all our best to you and yours...

Hey Paul, hope things are well with you and Nancy and the kids. Hockey season is back, so I know you are going to be extra busy

This is a nice idea. We need more ideas of "value-added services" that the offices can charge a small fee for. And of course the ability to implement them.

We have been providing our patients with their medical records on a flash drive for the past 6 years or so. It does not bring in much profit, but it does offset the cost of data entry.
The patient receives a flash drive with our logo that attaches to a keychain.
Information includes:
Allergies
Medications
Primary Medical Problems
Medical History
Surgical History
Family History
Social History
Advanced Directives
Vaccines
List of the patients Consultants and phone numbers
Diagnostic Studies

Each topic is organized into a very readable format.

Doctors from other states have called us to compliment us on the
device when our patients have been admitted into their ER.

It is so useful to our patients that we decided to do double entry of results into AC and our database.

I have even been able to export this information to Updox from my phone and send directly to the ER when a patient is admitted.

Because the information is stored in a database we can easily query information and export into reports.
