Part of the problem is the perversion of the word 'insurance' when it comes to medicine. Folks conflate health 'insurance' as being equivalent to unlimited health related treatment as a benefit to which they are entitled and may involve some token co-pay on their part. With any other insurance ( see definition ), if you every make a claim, your risk is re-evaluated, and your rates are promptly increased if you are not out-right refused renewal of your coverage. Auto accidents or mal-practice lawsuits come to mind.

"The answer is simple: pass a bill forcing all doctors to accept any government-approved insurance. Problem solved without any unintended consequences."
No doubt who this a**clown voted for in the election. I do not accept insurance...The ACA spells out that no provider can be mandated to take insurance... this located a few paragraphs above the clause that says no health care provider, facility etc.. will be PROHIBITED from providing euthanasia services! Somehow that when did not make it on the news.

I must say, I wondered both where that came from...and how it would be received.

Indy, looks like you got a win. An ugly win, but none the less, a win. I feel bad for those Army players - stunned disbelief. Glad to see they didn't give smokin' Joe a mic, just as well.

OK, so back to the subject of the article.
Your average American thinks of their Doctors and their contracted insurance company (if they have one) when you say 'healthcare'.
Yet, the healthcare industry is made up of Doctors, Hospitals, Insurance companies, Pharmaceutical companies, Medical supply companies, and sundry other third parties. The *ONLY* group there that doesn't have someone speaking for them are Doctors. IF the AMA or someone else is speaking up, I'm sure not hearing it.
It demonstrates how ignorant your average American is of how healthcare is delivered if their solution is that the Government MAKE a Doctor take their payer insurance company]. How would that same person like the Government dictate who they work for, or who cuts their hair, or who sells them their clothes - and the Government says that the third party dictates raises, hair styles, or what clothes they get. Clueless.
Several erudite references to Rome, and while I am still slugging through the multi-volume "Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire", the signs are that we share much in common with Rome's decline.
