Yes. It was a Cochrane study at http://summaries.cochrane.org/CD009009/general-health-checks-for-reducing-illness-and-mortality. I think the study originated in Denmark, as I recall. I was hardly surprised.

Yes, but isn't this what MU and Pay for Performance is all about?

Thanks David.

This study supports quite the paradigm shift for the role of the primary care physician, and the shift in thinking reminds me of the old Scandinavian saying, "there's no bad weather, just bad clothing."

I am no longer recommending mammograms, PSA's, colonoscopies, or pap smears, but lutafisk, lefse, glogg, and sandbakelse.

Ya sure ya betcha!!!!!!

There is medicine, and then there is medical theater. Medicine is spending time with, and listening to, our patients. Medical theater is what "they" are willing to pay us to do.

@David

Yep, and the policy makers will be latching onto these results so that annual medicare checkups from the primary care doc should no longer be compensated. Especially since there has been an unexpected rise in medicare costs from the primary sector in 2011.

I had no idea till I married a Norwegian/German descended farm girl. (who happens to be amazing!)
Also there are more descendants of Norskis, than Swedes, Danes or Fins in this region of the world.
It is a Norwegian term of exasperation, and I used it in the sense of being overwhelmed (thus the capitals and !!!)
Uff da is utilized quite frequently in my wife's family and the Norski descended folks around here.
On a side note, if you have never had home made lefse, I will personally make you into a professional lefse turner (my job) if you are interested, if you make it out to the next western AC meeting.
But you can have my portion of lutafisk!!!
