Jimmy...do we really want to go there? It could get rough.
How about these views on the great issues of our day:
Orioles over Texas and St. Louis over the Braves tomorrow.

So now would not be a good time to talk about religions?

We are talking baseball, Leslie. For some of us, that is our religion. At least for the next week or two.

Triple Crown is one heck of an achievement, and Miggy will probably win MVP as a result. But if I had to choose, I'd take Trout over Miggy.

We could use either one of them on the Red Sox.
Good Riddance to Bobby V.

Go get Sweet Lou...then Bobby V. would look good! I could have coached better..Ryne Sandberg would be good for the red sox..
I grew up in Seattle, home of bad baseball...I am happy Oakland has the magic this year...even a low budget team can win with the correct chemistry. Sometimes the front office manipulates the team too much...you cant buy the series all the time....just look at the stankees....I would love to see the A's and the Nat's in the series if possible ...and yes Miggy is good...

It's kind of hard to win when the players run the ship.

I actually think Bobby V. is a decent guy, and a pretty good tactician. He knows his X's and O's. Problem is, this isn't an "old school" league anymore. It's a league that's run by the players. You now have to be a politician and a psychologist to manage in the big leagues, and Bobby couldn't be bothered by any of that nonsense.

He wasn't even on speaking terms with most of his coaches and more than 1/2 of his players. That's not old school. That's pathologic. I would have fired him 2 months ago.

It is cool to watch the A's magic. We'll see what happens.
I feel bad for Josh Hamilton. It is amazing how one play can define your whole season. Sometimes your whole career. Just ask Bill Buckner.

I'm okay with to talk about religion - nothing like a jail-break blitz to get a quarterback to want someone, anyone to save him.

The triple crown for the Red Sox was getting rid of Beckett, Gonzalez and Crawford.

I would have fired the whole team. Dustin Pedroia. Great player. "That's not the way we do things around here." Well, it is when you have a new general manager. I'm sorry, I don't think Valentine is a good coach either, but you still have to respect him. My humble opinion.

Leslie,
Jimmy started the thread by asking about the presidential debate, at which point I (inadvertently) nudged him to change to the baseball discussion. But if you want to go back to his idea of discussing the jackasses, feel free...

Wanting to make sure I had the terminology correct, I had to look this up.

Quote
So, it seems the aforementioned jackass is simply a male [censored]. The main difference between the jackass and the donkey is their domestication -- the [censored] is wild; the donkey is domesticated.

So ... would this be the discussion of jackasses or donkeys?

Jon, too funny. I read Jimmie's post before he deleted it and thought "oh, oh, this should be fun".
Indy, an [censored] is an [censored], whether jack(male) or jennet(female) or elephant. All donkeys are asses, assinus equinus, but not all asses are donkeys, some are elephants. I don't know where you got that quote but they are an [censored].

The bray of the donkey may be used as a simile for loud and foolish speech in political mockery.[91][92] For example,[93]

There are braying men in the world as well as braying asses; for what's loud and senseless talking and swearing, any other than braying

That is what I get for quoting Yahoo answers. smile

With a few wild-child politicians aside, most seem domesticated, so I would call them all donkeys. Jackass just comes to mind once they open their mouths.
