I thought of two or three things I would like to see added to the prescription writer:

cool I would like to have the weight of the patient visible somewhere on the prescription writer, so I can calculate pediatric dosages without referring back to the note (I always forget!).

cool I know this has been brought up several times, but I would like the "Allergies" field to be populated with what you add TODAY, not what you thought they were allergic to at their last visit a year ago.

cool If that is not possible for some reason, then let's try this approach: let the allergy field in the progress note be entered via the prescription writer, just as the medications are now.

(When you attempt to type allergies directly into the "Allergies" field of the progress note, you would get the same little warning menu you get when you try to type medications directly into the "Medication" field of the progress note).

Brian, great ideas. But, as you say, what good is an allergy from a year ago. But, what good is a weight from a year ago. As someone who has probably moved the damned prescription writer at least 15,000 times to see the weight, I have always wanted it there too. But, we would need to make sure the weight there was accurate. Even if it were dated somehow, you may overlook that it is five months ago IF it were coveniently located on the script writer.

Having the script writer populate the allergies is a GREAT idea.

Good ideas.

I also want to see pharmacy and insurance, especially these Part D Plans on the script writer.
