We just did our first eprescription. Have a few questions. Where in the documentation is the pharmacy location that we eprescribed each drug? They may go to different pharmacies. Do we need to add the G8553 code to our billing system even though we are using AC for meaningful use?
This process is 1 day new to us.
Thanks

Hi Peter,

If you go to the main window of AC, click E-Prescribing, then select prescription status you can sometimes find the pharmacy information. I say sometimes because it doesn't always state which pharmacy it was sent to. Just as it's a bug that AC doesn't always save the patients pharmacy of choice.

What version of AC are you using?

Marty,

We are using 6.0.10.
Just purchased last week. Have been adding results for the past few months. Getting ready to use for visits and meaningful use in a week or so. How about the G8553 code?
This year we are being penalized for not eprescribing.

Peter and Marty,
1. Marty's instructions are the easiest way to get this information, though as he says, it is sometimes missing. If so, you can get it through this more complex process:

Go to a patient's chart, preferably one who has NO prescribed medications. (For this to work, all the lines of the medications listed must be completely filled in, or you get an error message and cannot proceed. To generate the report, it makes no difference which patient you start with- so I start with an empty one to avoid the error).
Open the eRx module (either from within the chart, or by right clicking and going to "medications and eprescribing").
At the top of the screen, go to the menu "End of Day Reports".
A screen opens to create the report. Select the dates in the two calendars to include the date of the prescription in question (or just select today's date if the prescription was written today or you want to see the status of today's prescriptions).
Click "printer friendly" to display the report.
This report takes the prescription through each step of the verification process, and when it is completed will show the pharmacy, even if it did not show in the simple method Marty describes.

2. You MUST submit your G8553 codes to avoid the eRx penalty. It is part of the CMS craziness that you can attest for MU with a certified EMR that incorporates eRx like AC, but without the G8553 billing, they still will penalize you.

Thanks for a great response.
This was easy to find. Do you know if the G8553 code must go with a diagnosis on the claim or just leave it blank?

You cannot bill for the G8553 on its own; it must be accompanied by the E and M code for that visit. The diagnosis is the one(s) for the visit and the charge is $0.

Medisoft our PM, won't allow $0 so we charge $0.01
The amount is rejected of (could charge any amt, it would be rejected, but this doesn't confuse our AR numbers)

When the rejection for the 0.1 shows n the EOB, just adjust it off as a write off or something/.
