I run AC in a 2003 windows server environment. The server is not used as a client and most of the time no one logs into it or runs AC in it except me. Ever since I updated to 6.010 I have noticed that when I start AC in one of the clients, a windows pops up that states the message above. Also, amazing charts does not backup automatically as it did before. Sometimes days go by without a backup until I notice the error. I have set up ac to send me an message after each backup but I still manage to overlook this anyways... Any way to fix this? Once I start AC in the main computer the problem goes away until the server has to be restarted (often due to automatic updates) and then I have to manually restart the program or the error message recurs. I did not have to do this before. Sounds to me that the ac backup service is not restarting automatically, which I think it should. Any thoughts?

I am running 6.09. I too get that message on clients on AC startup, but it does so whether AC is running on the server or not. I usually start AC on the server after each weekly reboot so that it can run backup. This problem just appeared one day months ago with no change in configuration. Initially AC also did not run backup but miraculously it worked again one day, and has been backing up ever since. When support remoted in to fix another problem, he did see the message but was too busy fixing the lab interface to work on it. He suggested upgrading to 6.10 to get rid of this problem. I did not have time to do it yet. From your post it seems the problem is still there.

The "services not running" issue, as I recall was a problem on '9 and '10 but has been resolved on 6.12.
The backup issue has intermittently been a problem. I do remember seeing it on an earlier 6 version but not sure if it was as late as 9-10. I have not seen that as a problem on 12.

I went in and followed instructions using Amazing utilities and it worked to reset but recently had to have tech support show me a way to reset on the main computer under services 2 additional areas and that fixed it when the plain utilities did not. I just had this happen when upgraded to 6.3.1 but when Claire showed me the additional steps that seems to have fixed it for good.

This happens to me in 6.0.12 and has happened since I first started with AC in October (6.0.9). I'm on SBS2011e for the Server
From what i've seen, it is indeed an issue that comes up when the server Restarts.
The strange thing is that the 'amazing charts Service' DOES say 'started' in Services.msc
This has caused issue with backup not running automatically, and the only way i've seen to fix it is through the solution steve mentioned above.

Thanks for all your responses.
Steve: what steps are you talking about? is there a place I should be looking at? Sorry for the trouble and thanks in advance.

Yes, I don't understand why Steve didn't share that information, lol.
For me, it is on 6.12, whether AC is on the server, whether backup is working, whether I reboot the server. It doesn't affect my backup, but I don't run it on a schedule.
It only happens when I open AC on a client, and it takes a half second to click through it, and I do. It is annoying though.

^ The annoying part is that the Auto Backup cuts off. Sometimes I dont realize it until AC tells me that it hasn't been backed up in 5 days.
Steps I take to resolve this (temporarily, because it always comes back)
1. Run Amazing Utilities and 'Check Amazing Charts' (yay, it says the Amazing Charts Service is running!)
2. Run Amazing Backup Manually.
3. If the next morning the error persists and the backup hadn't run at 1am, I restart the Server, then open 'services.msc' from the Windows Search Box. I make sure both 'Amazing Charts service' and 'Amazing Charts Admin Service' are running. Then I repeat steps 1 and 2. This seems to work for, eh, a few days. Until (im assuming) auto updates are done and the server restarts again.

It is always interesting when everyone has a different experience. When I open AC, I get the error message that the AC service is not running on the server. If I ignore that, I have no issue. I tend to run AC backup manually anyway.
I never have to do those steps. Have you tried making both services Manual as it would then not have the option to stop during reboot.
Is your server automatically rebooting after updates?

Good call on the 'Manual' Services. I have it set to reboot automatically. May change that.

Sorry to all, I wasn't trying to be cryptic I had to be able to go back into main computer to get correct file names and I didn't want to give anyone bad information. In the main computer under services stop and restart Amazing charts admin service and amazing charts service. This is what Claire had to do when the Amazing utilities "check AC" didn't fix the problem. I has worked since since Claire showed me this. Sorry for the delay on this. It fixed my problem.

Hello all, I just wanted to give you a heads up on the Backup Automator issue. This has been a problem since 5.1 when the automator went from a process to a service. Most of you have probably experienced this where the automator gets stuck on a previous date. Then you call tech support and we have to remote into your server and run a fix to reset the date. Good news, there will now be a way to fix this right through the backup utility. In the soon to be released version 6.3.1, there will be a button in the backup scheduler that will do this for you. As Dr. Kennedy is Beta Testing 6.3.1, I believe you referred to this earlier in this post. Here is an image of where the button is located. ![[Linked Image from ]](/ub/attachments/usergals/2012/05/full-3518-257-reset_button.jpg) Thank you, Anthony@AC

Hold tight, 6.3.1 has some other issues that might keep it from being released.
Don't know if I am the only one having a problem but I have issues with it not recognizing highlighted Rxs as "certified" on a refill, then you have to look them up again. Annoying but takes more time.

Wendell,
Do you mean ones that were codified in the past and are now italics? This seems to happen whenever a med database is updated and they change the names of previously codified scrips - one I note is Bactrim DS.......

Yes, I've not seen that as a problem before. I do know they codified some DME things like nebulizers.

So, release date for 6.3.1 is .. . ? Hey, I completely missed the 6.2 beta, which was promised last month! There was supposed to be a release at the end of April ha. Totally forgot. Don't you guys remember, way back when, I think a year ago, we (all of us except Bert) were on V6.09; Jon B said "there will be no more releases until version 7". All of this talk about 6.2, 6.3,....maybe it is just smoke and mirrors! We are all just waiting for V7!

Thank you all for your responses and sorry I have been gone so long since my last visit. I know is clich? but I have been swamped with work lately. I stopped and restarted both ac services today. Lets see what happens tomorrow.

To be honest, I just click through it. It doesn't take that long. Depends on whether you turn AC off every night, but even then. Glad to hear your workload is getting lighter.

Update. Error still pops up every time I restart a client. However, backups are being done... Also, I am really getting tired of how long it takes to open the imported items in charts that have a lot of imports. Sometimes more than 1 minute! I notice there is a new beta: 6.3.3. Should I update to this beta? Do I have to use the database tuner if updating from 6.0.10? I have time this 4th of July, office closed, no cases as of now. Maybe.

Gerardo, I have never had this problem, but I closely follow the descriptions of it, because if it hit me, it would seriously impact my ability to use AC. I think you have a significant chance of improving the problem by moving beyond 6.0.10; I think it makes sense to go to 6.3.3. When you say "a lot of imports"...roughly how many do you mean?
I believe you do need the tuner; does anyone know for sure?
Please report back with your results if you decide to do this.

Over 20K patients in practice, some with over 50 imports (labs, ekg, radiology reports, path reports, medical records, operative notes, etc) I usually have to scroll down to get to the bottom of the list. I would SO love it if imports would open with the folders closed so you could just click on the import section that you are interested in, instead of opening up with all the folders expanded or open... This is a recommendation I made to AC many, many years ago. It would make the import section more usable, I think.

Gerardo, Your post above probably deserves its own thread. I have been hopeful for closed folders in Imported Items since this rather feeble promise made by Tech Support 3 years ago. Along with the letter writer, Imported Items remains a black hole in the Amazing Charts universe: crash prone, balky folders, quirky deletion methods, unable to globally rename or add new folders. And when I began to get lab downloads from Quest, it sorts the lab by most recent to the top, while all my previously imported scanned labs are in date order. Oh well, waiting patiently for version 7 in October. C'mon Tech Support, throw us a bone!

Imported Items is the Microsoft Access of file distribution. It has gone way too far past its prime.
John and Jon have been ranting about it for years. I even put it at the top of the Big 81 (which is still the Big 81), so I would have their friendship for life.
Funny thing is I was always worried that I should be using II due to I may run out of room with F.A.P. Five years and now category over 15%, and you can get to and open any file instantaneously, rename whole categories, merge within the program. Merge to separate categories for record transfers, etc.
But, sadly, it can only be used for one provider, and I am guessing that one provider doesn't see 20,000 patients. And, it doesn't support more than one provider or 20,000 patients unless we switch to SQL.

Update. I updated AC to 6.3.3 at the same time I upgraded my server to a 64 bit 2007 windows server with 8 gig ram and moved the domain controller to a different machine. The problem with amazing charts services not running has gone away. I do not know if the problem was AC, the old server (old one was 32 bit server with 2003 windows server OS with 4 gig memory), the operating system, or all / combination of the above. But I am happy. Also, the import items are now uploading super fast, almost instantaneously! Love it. Thanks for all your help.
